hello
I'm currently a college student and just finished my first year, I started off as a business major but thanks to the support of some very good friends of mine I stopped being a coward and I have switched to a double major in philosophy and political science and could not be happier with it.
I've come to absolutely love philosophy and to love thinking and feeling and being passionate.
I guess I should also state a few of the philosophical ideas flying around in my head just to give everyone an idea of what's in store?
Ill just briefly state a few ideas since I'm doing this on my phone at work, so here it goes:
I was raised catholic but I have concluded to myself that all religions are simply man made and artificial, I do not deny that there may be a god but if there is we are not capable of understanding just what this idea of god is or does.
I believe one of the best things one can in his or her life is to have passion, raw passion.
Creation of some form of art as a means to allow another to feel and gain an understanding of that passion is even better.
Capitalism (more over any monetary system) has raped art and will continue to do so until we as a people do something about it.
Mainstream radio makes me sick, and I mean this literally. Any time I try to listen I hear either the same passion less music over and over, music that was good in its respective time period and had passion but is now used as a commodity or worst of all I hear awful advertising, all of these things just make me feel disgusted and hopeless. I'm going to stop there before I rant.
The same is true for most studio films too.
I feel like all political systems attract smart greedy scum bags, and do not attract the kind of person who would strive for real progress.
I feel like people have made stupidity and ignorance a virtue (why else would larry the cable guy be successful?)
I also feel that our modern way of life takes passion out of us and we try to fill the gap with distractions like drugs/alcohol (by the way I'm not saying either of these are inherently bad, but are only bad when becomes someones only means to happiness),dumb ed
down television, music and film and artificial religion.
In short I feel that most of the world today is incredibly fake.
I know I sound pessimistic but I think the fakeness makes the genuine and the passionate all the more beautiful.
Sorry for the rambling, I'm going to stop here and sorry in andvanced for any and all spelling and gramtical mistakes that are bound to come when typing on a phone

And, if that quote is any indicator of what's to come, let me also say that I am very much looking forward to some great conversations with you, TMV. Welcome to the forums!Capitalism (more over any monetary system) has raped art and will continue to do so until we as a people do something about it.

And yeah the math requirements were a pain, calc one and two but luckily my highschool chem teacher was a master of his craft so I ended up being exempt from my science and lab requirements so its really not half bad.
I can tell from just browsing around I'm in some very good company

Let me just tack this little bit on as well.
My biggest passion right now is music. I picked up guitar two years ago when my brother and sister bought me an acoustic guitar for my birthday. Since then I have taught myself how to play and am now teaching myself music theory and messing around recording random tidbits using Garage band.
If anyone wants to hear the scraps that I record I made a purevolume: www.purevolume.com/donzii
The song called ths ziti is from my friend who is on the right in that picture
Keep in mind, these "songs" are pretty much just scraps, completely random with any from 3 minutes to maybe 30 minutes max put into them.
They're not meant to be good but purevolume is an easy place to keep all those scraps so that I can jar my memory if needed if I ever want to seriously make a piece of music.
and I might as well tack on some of the bands/musical artist that I love so here they are:
The Mars Volta: These guys are the reason I love music, plain and simple. Their first album was the first time music REALLY made me feel something and inspired me to try to pick up guitar. They are very out there and I love them for that as well. Here's a live song from their first album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJj4uORutwc
Wax On Radio: These guys only have 2 ep's out but have 40 songs ready to get recorded as soon as they get out of their contract with their current label. If you want to check these guys out I recommend their song "Today I Became A Realist" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teZswgGzf-g
The Dear Hunter: Like Wax on Radio The Dear Hunter is not very well known, at least to my knowledge and this continues to surprise me for this simple fact:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSm06SwNI18
An okay song from them but not the best, it's just that their live performance videos are not the best quality.
That was more than a little bit again...oh well. haha
