Edward J B I do not know who you are quoting, however I would just like to remark that while the meaning of truth is subjective the ontological status of truth is open to debate and I think that is what we are debating. So I agree with you.

It is an important debate for the reason that truth is a concept that most people feel love for; and also the reason that when truth is taken to exist as more than a concept it can be used as an excuse for some individuals to arrogate power for themselves.

Did you know?

It would seem that exclusive truth claims have gone out of style, we can thank Derrida and the rest of the postmodern philosophers for this. Derrida labels as "logocentric" certain exclusive truth claims, but I believe, any truth claim that does not 'sift' or discriminate is not worth a grain of salt. By discriminate, I mean the attempt to separate truth from error.

DeadCanDance I agree that some truths are better than other truths. The better truths are the ones that are more reasoned and informed. The criterion that I promote is human freedom. Human freedom is enhanced when opinions are more reasoned and well informed.

What is an undeniable rational truth?

Isn't energy an undeniable, universal, verifiable, rational, material truth, unless something further is found beyond it? It stood alone until matter was created from it in the Big bang.

Mind/quantum wave field/Consciousness/Perspective is the 'matrix' within which 'energy/stuff' manifests existence. 'Information waves'/Chaos/Mind give 'rise' to 'matter/energy' concepts of Perspective/Consciousness.
There is no'thing' 'out there'...

Why stop with either/or? Why not material and also immaterial? They are not mutually exclusive. Both the physical existence and the mental existence are parts of the total universe.

e.g. see Edward J B above: energy is true. AND the idea of energy is also true.

It is what it is relative to that which it is relative to; and the only thing it is not is its exact opposite.

An undeniable truth is one that is such that any explicit attempt to deny it implicitly affirms it. For example: Truth exists.

I could argue that truth is a concept only in existence due to humans accepting it as something that exists...

Does that include your proposition?

Can metalanguage and language usefully be mixed in the same proposition?

Nothing is really undeniable. You always have to assume some postulates/axioms. Mostly based on observation. I like the Cartesian approach. There are some things which are simply beyond doubt to any reasonable person and you take these as a starting point. That does not mean however that these are truths, because if you wanted to justify them you would still need to refer to another principle. I just think that there are undeniable truths to a sane person, because I just simply can't imagine anyone with a healthy mind doubt that if a car is red and big, then it is red or that a cat is a cat.

Is it not an undeniable truth that our experience of apparent reality is relational? If it is realized that in the absence of consciousness the physical world is utterly meaningless, its seems to me, the only man left standing is to realize cognition is relational. Subject and object stand or fall together. Apparent reality is the relation between subject and object, it is a relational experience--an inseparable relation.

They are mutually inclusive------subject and object/existence, stand or fall together.
