Once we start criticizing institutions (or people) for what they DON"T do, we are sliding down a slippery slope, because everyone (incluing Jesus and the Buddha) didn't do something we find admirable.

Further, the Bible has many more passages about care for the environment than it does slamming gays - and it says nothing whatsoever about abortions or when life begins. https://www.openbible.info/topics/carin ... nvironment
So why are these passages ignored while the few passages about gays (usually referring to wartime rape anyway) are given laser focus?

I still think you're presenting a false dichotomy. What do Church's obsessions with homosexuality and abortion have to do with their ignoring the environment? If you want to criticize their positions on abortion or sex, fine. But criticizing it BECAUSE of their lack of concern about the environment seems unfair. Besides, Christianity (and other religions) have always been obsessed with sex, because sex is (or was in the past before good birth control) the foundation of society. It's not just homosexuality of which Chritian churches disapprove: it's adultery (see the Ten Commandments) and fornication as well. If there was an "adultery rights" movement, the churches would probably oppose that, too.

Opportunity costs.Ecurb wrote: ↑April 29th, 2021, 11:08 am When homosexuality and abortions were illegal (not so long ago) the Churches saw no need to obsess about them. That's why it's "relatively new".

While churches meddle in people's very private business, they could be using the generous tax breaks that they enjoy to lobby for things that will help the world rather than kinky obsessions.
