Karl Marx said that religion is the opiate of the masses. Simone Weil retorted that religion is the opiate of the masses. As usual she gets it.popeye1945 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2021, 3:34 pm Hi Nick,
Funny you should meantion the reactionary nature of the beast. In fact all organisms including man are reactionary creatures, so just perhaps the threat the peril has not reached critical mass for the population to collectively react. Then again more likely it is mindlessness, if so, the population must pay a terrible price, and the survivors will gather the thread and hopefully be the wiser. These pandemics metphorically can be envisioned the mother of all storms.
I will be canceled by the woke crowd if they find out I said it. The woke crowd and its obsession with social justice believes social justice leads to world peace.
Heh, heh, heh, foolish child. Since we are as we are, everything is as it is. Societies turn in circles following the cycles of nature described in Ecclesiastes 3 concluding with war and peace. The Beast cannot do anything else. Only individuals can change and it is only the influence of these rare individuals who have left Plato's cave that can lessen the effects of war.

I take it her responds was a reaction to any putting down religion. I've just google her and will check her out, you seem quite taken with her.

If that loathsome fker had any class he wouldn't even want to survive knowing that he's responsible for it all.
Your going to have to get off the fence with this vital subject-------lol!! Excellent, humanity has become the disease of the planet. Could you speak up a little lad---LOL!!

Turn turn turn by the Byrds is a folk song based on Ecclesiastes3. If something is true does it really matter who said it? That is what I like about Simone Weil. She was an atheist and and a highly regarded member of the French Marxist party. She died a Christian mystic and intellectual influence on Pope Paul V1. She was more concerned with truth than being right. I appreciate being able to impartially contemplate an apparent absurdity rather then emotionally denying it.

I don't think it's appropriate to want to go further in spite of your kind invitation. After all I still believe restraint is a virtue!popeye1945 wrote: ↑May 10th, 2021, 3:51 amHi Tegularius,Tegularius wrote: ↑May 9th, 2021, 6:57 pm A species which produces whole islands of garbage and plastics in the oceans killing vast numbers of what lives there deserves nothing less than extermination itself having proven itself equal to the garbage it produces and distributes world-wide.
