Hi Terrapin Station,
For me spiritual just means there is emotional intelligence involved in the relationship, that there is real emotional contact, perhaps the earlier experiences were somewhat less then emotionally rewarding or they would not have failed. For me, there is no religious context here at all. The fact that marriage is a give and take and the longer a couple is together there is a psychological melding that occurs over the years really accounts for terming of the developing relationship a co-evolutionary experience.

Hi LuckyR,
Well, it involves my topic posting on the various types of poverty and how these different types of poverty affect the individual. The wretched state of the public school system however makes this seem a utopian enterprize, but it needn't be. It would however involve a restructuring of society to some extent, the school system would be at the top of the list. This could only be accomplished if the public could be convinced to support an educational system that would be greatly more expensive in the short term, for a generation or two. The old you get what you pay for! The present system isn't even delivering on that. This is a fairly big topic though, perhaps we could continue it in my other thread on the various types of poverty?
I'll meet you there.

Hi LuckyR,
Well, my premise would start with a change in the selection of teaching staff, a new staff would not be a product of the same system in which they now find employment. The staff would be a truley intellectually inclined staff. Like I said though, this would be a great deal more expensive to the general public and therefore a none starter. So, in order to bring the willingness of the public to get onboard there would need to be a propaganda campaign. The public would need a vision of what could be a new reality, if not so much in their own generation certainly in their off springs generation and the countries rise to a new level of excellence, a new level of humanity. Obviously, the propaganda campaign would be the opening scence, the public must be brought to realize the possibilities and convinced to put their wills behind it. Perhaps it could be metaphorically presented like a war effort, their sacrifice is required and their patriotic fervor excited.

Well I definitely agree that an emotional connection is necessary, that emotional maturity is necessary, etc. ;-)

I just wouldn't call that "spiritual."

Yes, perhaps the term is too loaded with religious connotations, perhaps ultimate experience or perhaps something else, any suggestions?

Well, and ghosts and stuff like that. I'd just use the term "emotional connection" or "emotional intelligence" as you did.

Perhaps in this thread, a deeper definition of spiritual is useful; if we agree on what it is, it will be easier to discuss it. Pls, anyone make a proposal for that. I can not disagree with anything about what I read so far; above.

My current idea is that spirituality is something that is born from a source that is more general than those sources that we can identify easily. Could be religion, energy, or "magic".

Or it is the essence of emotion that is in turn given birth from chemicals within our bodies.

I hope others will give additional insight into this. By understanding "spiritual" we may have a better chance to manage it and guide it to be positive. I mean that the two attempted definitions I have suggested would be managed in different ways. So the best definition will lead to the best solutions.

Yeah, the use of spiritual is regetable, I wonder is it possible to change the original post. It would probably improve the response to the post as well.
