This (above) covers Nature. And, as others have commented, Nurture (cultural influences) also have a significant effect.Pattern-chaser wrote: ↑May 27th, 2021, 10:19 am
That is my thought too. We inherit from our parents, and via them from our more distant ancestors. This inheritance is apparently random, as regards who we inherit X from, or so empirical evidence would seem to suggest.

Yep, when the Ovum and the Sperm come together its a juggling act. You only get a small amount of specialised genes from the Y chromesome if you are to be born male.Pattern-chaser wrote: ↑May 27th, 2021, 10:19 am

If you are born a girl, you could just as easily get all you spare X chromesome related genes from the father as much as your mother.
When I say "if you are to be born male" I choose my words carefully, as we all start off as female foetuses, until the Y chromesome kicks in when the nescent female parts are disolved.

Looks like this is going to be a short thread thanks for the input. Both Schopenhauer and Nietzsche had a low regard for women, bitterly so, and then the spirit of the time period would lean heavily this way.
I wonder how much they loved their mothers. Probably more than their treatment of women would suggest.
Hatred of women can often be tied with resentment concerning sexual attraction and denial. In a buttoned up society where sexuality is hidden and discouraged can lead to this sort of reaction.
You might surpress sexual activity but you cannot surpress desire.

Yes, I believe you right, this is destined to be a very short thread. Thanks for the input though.

In Nietzsche's case he never mistreated women at all; that denigration only happened in his writings which is of no consequence and can be easily ignored. He had a very high regard for Lou Salome and especially so for Cosima Wagner who he mentioned even in his early days of insanity. For some reason he could never get her out of his system until his mind collapsed completely. Nietzsche's letters are often contrary to his official writings; it is there one often gets a more accurate portrait of his real character.
