Try this: I say that ten is a fact. Do you agree or disagree?
Gee
Why not? There is a ten. There can be a ten. Ten is a fact.
Remember that in order for something to be a fact, it must be true; so, I am going to purchase your house for ten dollars, or I have ten children, or my IQ is ten are all facts? No they are not true, so they are not facts.
What about the word "ten" standing alone? Ten is a word. That is a fact, but it is only a fact if one understands English, otherwise it is gibberish, so this is dependent upon prior knowledge. Ten also represents a number, so it is a fact of math, but again, it is necessary to understand math and the one to one ratio of numbers to things. No matter how you look at it, facts require interpretation/prior knowledge in order to be facts. Why is that?
We tend to see facts as solid, immutable, and we see objectivity the same way; whereas, truth is highly debatable and subjectivity is often scorned. But the simple truth is that objectivity is based on a consensus of subjective opinions -- without subjectivity there is no objectivity. Truth is subjective, so objective facts could not exist without subjective truths.
So when the OP decided that prior knowledge was detrimental to the human mind, s/he also eliminated truth from the premises, theory, and conclusions in this thread -- but retained fact. That is why I stated that it was all nonsense as the logic is an impossibility. I am not even sure there is such a thing as "psychological facts".
