Deterioration of the human mind

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

I think i have about enough of your insecurities. It isn't me intention to give you comprehension, as has been mentioned before. Now if there isn't anything else i will bow out. You won't hear from me again.
Take it as a time of introspection to figure out what went wrong.

Out of all the tricks people can use to socially climb (both conscious and unconscious) and different weapons they can wield for doing so - raw obstinance and refusal to read landscapes is one of the strategies that yields the least positive outcomes - unless you're 6'8" and 300 lbs in which case keep it offline where people have to bring your size into the equation.

It went perfect! Just as one had wished. The OP exposed the workings of the conditioned reactive mind. Having done it perfectly There is no need to continue. It's really simple.

In the other, you are simply exposing how you think, not the OP. You have done an excellent job in exposing yourself.

Typo in previous response:

Read "in the other", as In the 'above'.

They aren't typos, they're keys to the cipher for anyone with 'eyes to see and ears to hear'.

Try this: I say that ten is a fact. Do you agree or disagree?

Gee
Why not? There is a ten. There can be a ten. Ten is a fact.
Remember that in order for something to be a fact, it must be true; so, I am going to purchase your house for ten dollars, or I have ten children, or my IQ is ten are all facts? No they are not true, so they are not facts.

What about the word "ten" standing alone? Ten is a word. That is a fact, but it is only a fact if one understands English, otherwise it is gibberish, so this is dependent upon prior knowledge. Ten also represents a number, so it is a fact of math, but again, it is necessary to understand math and the one to one ratio of numbers to things. No matter how you look at it, facts require interpretation/prior knowledge in order to be facts. Why is that?

We tend to see facts as solid, immutable, and we see objectivity the same way; whereas, truth is highly debatable and subjectivity is often scorned. But the simple truth is that objectivity is based on a consensus of subjective opinions -- without subjectivity there is no objectivity. Truth is subjective, so objective facts could not exist without subjective truths.

So when the OP decided that prior knowledge was detrimental to the human mind, s/he also eliminated truth from the premises, theory, and conclusions in this thread -- but retained fact. That is why I stated that it was all nonsense as the logic is an impossibility. I am not even sure there is such a thing as "psychological facts".

Without a doubt there are psychological facts. All.facts are.
You misunderstood the OP, from how I understand it,truth is not eliminated. What is stated is the fact that thinking second hand thoughts is not a recipe for a clear creative mind. In other words thinking without dogma is key.
But you came on with your dogmatic thinking, your hobnail boots and decided to strawman and pontificate. Thus showcasing the deterioration of mind set out in the OP. Case proven!

Cheers! But this fella just wants to vent his insecurity.
He needs to read with more care! And try to live up to the philosophers tag of "freethinker".

Where does deterioration come in? What you are describing isn't the same condition that Man is facing through the ages?
On the contrary, I can say that the human mind has advanced enormously through the ages, because intelligence has to do with solving problems and humans are facing and solving ever more problems everyday. I cannot say the same though about human ethics!

In his constant effort to fix his problems by looking into the solutions proposed by the various brokers (Secular or Religious), it is clear the human has descended into a pattern of conformity, thus making the mind and the heart dull, insensitive, sluggish, blind, unresponsive, almost lifeless. A second hand machine at best, that constantly breaks down.

It seems the human is not capable of looking at anything with fresh eyes or to adequately respond to the challenges life throws at him/her. Every new moment is met with the weight of the past and through the acquired filters. Thus all responses are partial and fragmentary.

How can such a burdened human ever be free to meet a new unknown moment. How will such a weighed consciousness penetrate the tenuous workings of their own mind, and that of the universe.
What if looking at things as they are is just not our function? To look at things as they are is the function of the world. However, we still maintain close connections with the world, since we are a part of it—we are a part of "things that are". We can be defined as ourselves, but we can also be defined as a part of the world.
People perceive gray and argue about whether it's black or white.
