To Mask or Not to Mask - which is safer?

Every day that we wait to implement herd immunity, is another day that more people die. So AB, tell me, how many more people must die before we start to stop this thing?

Worrying about the "cheaters" is the least of our worries.

******
At the rate we are going, it will be all the healthy "cheaters" that end up stopping this virus and saving our butts. We need to root them on, for our selfish healthy vaccinated people seemingly prefer to keep hiding on the sidelines letting our vulnerable population continue to perish.

I and my friends and relations are healthy vaccinated people and none of us is a cheater. Indeed we have all improved on our normal social cleanliness since covid. My point is that most people are not cheaters.

In wartime there were cheaters but I daresay far fewer than during covid. It has not been diplomatic for governments in Europe and America to impose wartime laws in this day and age, in free countries. Law makers have tried to balance personal liberties and public benefit.

I agree with you. Most people are not cheaters. But now is the time to implement herd immunity (while the vaccinations are still somewhat effective). If the cheaters cheat, then so be it. We need to stop this virus once and for all. The healthy/healthy vaccinated need to take off their masks and start socializing asap.

If herd immunity is our ONLY means to stop this virus, then what are we waiting for??? ...waiting for new mutations to occur (when the current vaccine will be less effective) is only digging a deeper hole for ourselves. There is no better time than now to save ourselves.

If we refuse to unmask and socialize our healthy population, then soon we will not have a healthy population to stop this virus.

Coronaviruses tend to become endemic. I daresay if the common cold was dangerous research would have been funded like it was for covid-19.

In this instance the only ones who are “cheaters” are the ones who go maskless despite the fact that they are not vaccinated or that they don’t have strong enough immune systems to fight the virus successfully without vaccination.

I don’t personally think that they are cheaters per se. These people are more likely avoiders than cheaters. Some won’t wear a mask because they sincerely but mistakenly believe their immune systems are robust enough to withstand Covid. Others sincerely but mistakenly believe that Covid is a hoax.

RJG introduced the term “cheaters” and suggested that only cheaters will go maskless, intentionally, without being qualified to do so. I believe that very few of the maskless are cheating the system. They are sincere in their avoidance of masks.

Indeed, your friends, relatives and you are certainly not cheaters by anyone’s usage of the word.

Throw the word, “cheaters”, out of your thinking at this time. Substitute the word, “avoiders”, for a clearer understanding of who will, mistakenly, break the rules, so to say.
