Is the meaning in your life inside or outside?

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

I did see this when you posted it, but somehow forgot to respond.

What is it about the above posters that leads you to believe they have no interest in philosophy? What did you mean by that? I ask because it seems clear to me that pretty much everyone here in this forum is interested in philosophy. Why else would they/we be here?

I'm thinking now that this was some kind of sarcasm tracing back to the comments about the difference between studying philosophy and practicing it. It didn't occur to me right off. The philosophy I love demands to be put into practice in the real world the minute that you assent to it. It's easy to forget that it is not the same for some others, or for other types of philosophy.

Embracing the inner life, to me, is synonymous to following your own preference. No matter how little you accomplish in life, as long as you are content within yourself, I guess that's embracing your inner life. Although, to embrace the "outer" life (e.g. your accomplishments and effects), you still have to follow your preference too. They are like cause and effect—you cannot prefer the cause over the effect, or effect over the cause. They are inseparable.

No one can say for sure what life's true meaning is. For some, it's all about finding happiness, starting a family, and living life to the fullest. When we live from the inside out, we are living from a place of self-worth. We believe we are completely capable of carrying out our mission throughout the globe. Furthermore, because we have a strong feeling of self-assurance and clarity, we seek out those with whom we can share life's adventures. On the other hand, We are doubtful of our worth and capabilities when we live from the outside in. We may be without a sense of purpose or have doubts about our capacity to carry out our mission in the world. We lack self-assurance and clarity, and we seek others to define or save us.
