What philosophy offends you most?

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

Yes, it's this thought, extended to include Life, the Universe, and Everything, that leads toward my own religious beliefs. 🤔👍

Theists often claim that atheists don't believe in anything larger than themselves.

In truth, it's theists who, instead of being awed and feeling a part of nature, they ignore nature by pretending it's actually a gigantic spirit with a humanlike mentality. I see most religion as very much profane in spirit, with only inklings and hints of depth on display, which are the parts most usually ignored by theists.

Older men having contempt for young women. BAU.

I far prefer misguided, sentimental, self-righteous woke people to the prejudiced people who are most responsible for the woke movement. At least the woke mean well, even if they are naive.

I don't get the "sounded like Aussies!" postscript but I probably should.

Ah, I'd not bothered with listening. I'm now up to speed.

In the end, the more crowded a society, the fussier people become about certain rules of engagement.

One can refer to a country and its people by referring to their King; the monarch stands as a sort of synecdoche for the land and people. In the same way, God can and does — for some theists — stand for the same thing, but extended out to the very edges of the Universe. That's not a definition or description of God, of course, but only one of Her aspects or attributes. But to place God instead of Nature is, I think, a serious misunderstanding, and a serious mistake.

Other than that 👆 comment, I agree with what you say. I especially like the bit about 'depth'. 👍

Now, now. You can't blame that idiocy on crowding.

Now think about the well-known mentality of crowds and revisit your statement.

Further, as it's said, your right to swing your arms ends at the place where other's noses might be in the way. (very rough paraphrase)
