There is nothing "metaphysical" about it.

You said "it enables us to solve problems"? What kind of problems are you referring to?

It is just a term we apply to humans' propensity to ask questions about cause and effect; it has no existence apart from human minds, which have no existence apart from human brains. It is not a "thing," it is just a segment of the programming built into those brains, which has evolved because it confers survival value."

What's 'propensity'? Does 'propensity' that have biological survival value? If 'wonder' is not a thingy, what is it? Is it a meta-physical thingy that exists in the mind? Explain wonder physically? How did wonder evolve?
You still can't answer the questions so I'll re-post them for your convenience. Your examinations don't square with biological significance and nor survival value:
You're still equivocating, again. On the one hand , you're saying mathematics and music are not 'physical', does that mean they are metaphysical?
Regarding Hawking's sense of wonder, you dodged the question. I'll ask again, is his sense of wonderment all physical? You know, wonder as the existing thing-in-itself. The thing that causes one to posit theories.
Okay, I'll continue to play along. You say a' cognitive imperative'... , can you explain that please? Are you suggesting wondering about causes and effects have exclusive survival value? How is that logically possible when instinct is all that's necessary to survive there? Did apes ask questions about causes and effects and work out mathematical formulas to evade falling objects? How did mathematical ability evolve?
