What characterizes a philosopher

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

No, time for you to read Aristotle. He explains it. You're far off.

You never read Aristotle, correct?

you have read Aristotle more than anyone else, or at least, more than me? I shall have my lips sealed.
You are causing the hostility.

For everyone here, it would help to recap, every now and then, on "How to have productive philosophical conversations", the first topic on General Philosophy, before tapping another word and moving on. If 10 pages are too many, go through the first couple.

You aren't being harassed. On the contrary, both of us have asked that you express your ideas more clearly, so that we all might more easily discuss the matter in hand. This was done with courtesy, and yet you assert that our approaches are harassment. I cannot prevent you from seeing things this way, but I regret it anyway. Good luck and bon voyage!

If you are one of "the learned", then please demonstrate your learning. It's a simple and courteous request; how about it?

The moderators are always the most ignorant and most hostile people on every forum. Easy to spot.

Sy Borg is a moderator, but gad-fly and I are not. No-one has been hostile to you, and ignorance is something we all share, so I don't see what your problem is. You seem angry and dismissive because your ideas have not simply been accepted without due consideration. But that's what this forum is for: due consideration of any/all ideas presented.

If you believe that you have been attacked or harassed, perhaps it is "time to move on", as you opined above? That would be a shame, as you seem to have some interesting ideas, when you allow them through. But you must do as you think best.

I repeat: good luck and bon voyage! 👍

One characteristic of the philosopher is to dismiss the megalomaniac, the bully, and the fouled-mouthed, with humor.

I won't worry about what led up to this. I certainly wouldn't want to violate the forum rules by, for an example, accusing someone of trolling (not you, PC). I will just point out that this was an excellent and proper response for a philosopher. You may be a stoic and not even know it! You saw intuitively that someone else's drama doesn't need to affect you unless you choose to allow it. You maintained your calm amidst the storm of everyday life, which is perhaps the greatest benefit that stoicism promises (and delivers!).

Yes, there is trolling, sadly, and there are also divas, who respond negatively when their narcissistic self-regard is questioned. It looks as though this might have been such a case. 🤔

Following the above, i posted "Trolling" which attracted some viewers and about 8 replies or so. The post has since disappeared out of trace. I wonder if the deletion is a mistake, or the posting is a mistake in the first place.
