Neutrino theory of consciousness

Post by value »

After having suggested it as an idea in several topics I hereby provide a description of a potential physical explanation of the cosmos and consciousness based on Neutrino energy from the 🌞 Sun.

Neutrinos are an energy form similar to photons that can exert a mass influence up to 3000x in size difference 'out of itself'. The particle is called a 'Ghost Particle' and is seen as a candidate for dark matter and dark energy.

Philosopher William James mentioned the following about the mind in The Principles of Psychology by which he characterized mind or 'intelligence' as being energy.

"all that is able to be affirmed is that it [mind] is something that: perceives, reflects, remembers, imagines and wills but what it is that exerts these energies is unknown"

The whole of earth including its dark side is bathing in a continuous stream of neutrino energy which might make it of interest to look at neutrinos for an explanation of life and consciousness.

A recent study showed a correlation between Supernovae explosions and an explosion of life forms (creative process) on earth. In a Supernovae explosion, 99% of a stars energy is released into the Universe in the form of neutrinos. The other 1% is matter. (the study doesn't link the finding to neutrinos but it might be worthwhile for consideration)

(2022) Supernovae and life on Earth appear closely connected
A remarkable link between the number of nearby exploding stars, called supernovae, and life on Earth has been discovered.
https://phys.org/news/2022-01-supernova ... earth.html

In theory neutrinos move at light speed because they can switch between so called 'flavours'. At light speed there is no time or distance so at question would be: how could a tiny particle deviate out of a state of timelessness to interact with mass in the physical world - 'out of itself'?
When a neutrino changes "flavor" or "color" it is in a transition state and therefore can be any mass. At the midpoint it is 0 mass and travels at speed c (light speed). When it becomes one or the other it has mass. In between it can have any mass, meaning even 0 mass. It's the same as Schrodingers cat. It works and is non-contradictory.
At light speed: no time
But for light itself, which is already moving at light speed… You guessed it, the photons reach zero distance and zero time.
https://phys.org/news/2014-05-does-ligh ... -time.html

It is estimated that 10 trillion neutrinos from the Sun travel through every square centimetre of space around earth at any time. Cosmic-wise it's a lot more and the estimate is based on what science has been able to measure today.

While I am not a supporter of the Big Bang theory, the Big Bang is supposed to have exploded neutrinos similar to a Supernovae explosion and one official theory cited by Fermilab estimates that there are about 300 Big Bang neutrinos in every cubic centimeter of space (about the size of a thumbnail).

Humans today only know of neutrinos that interact with mass. That interaction is not fixed but is based on a 'state' (flavour) that the neutrino can morph into out of itself which means that it can also have a zero-state (timelessness).

Scientists now predict that neutrinos can in fact decide to 'not interact' (have zero mass) and then exist in such quantities that it explains dark matter - the factor that according to science would be required to explain the observed form of the cosmos.

Some considerations that would be applicable:

---

When neutrino's are the origin of consciousness it could imply that life is bound to a region around a star. A relevant question would be: where are the 👽 aliens?

Most people in the modern world view life as something that is owned on an individual level, as something that can be taken with one during space travel. Popular films such as Star Trek and Star Wars have displayed a future in which humans travel through space.

Some scientists are wondering however: why is the Solar system and Earth not crowded with alien visitors? Why, after decades of space science, has no hint been found for the existence of extraterrestrial life?

Animals in space: no farther then the Moon
Animals in space: no farther then the Moon
space-cat-200.jpg (30.86 KiB) Viewed 2008 times

A logical question was: how far in space can earth life remain alive?

In 2021 I discovered that the farthest distance that an animal, insect or bacteria had travelled in space was the Moon and meanwhile trillions of USD were already invested for a manned mission to Mars in 2030.

Science it's dogmatic influence on behalf of determinism, the ground upon which science envisions itself to become master of the Universe, has resulted in a such a repression that it was never considered that Earth life may be bound to a region around the 🌞 Sun.

Philosophy naturally would have posed the following questions:
  • Is there at least one clue that Earth life is independent from the Solar system?
  • On what basis is it valid to consider that life is like a biochemical fire that can be taken with one during space travel?
Based on these questions, the first thing to test would be whether Earth life can remain alive further away from Earth. Yet, as of 2021 it was never tested because mainstream science intends to steer to a perspective in which life is a deterministic biochemical process and consciousness an illusion.

When life would be bound to a region around a star, it could explain why the Universe is not crowded with alien activity.

---

What is interesting in my opinion is to have a critical and pioneering philosophical look into neutrinos. Scientists are limited to what can be observed and are now considering a 'sterile neutrino' and would merely consider it as a particle that doesn't interact. But science may not naturally be inclined to ask 'Why' the neutrino would morph for mass-based interaction when science would seek a deterministic cause in the 'observed'.

It might open a door to new philosophical exploration - a foundation for morality and much more.

Note (if someone decides to look into it): weak force interaction was measured for the first time in 2018 on a scale that is much larger than would be required to measure neutrino weak force interaction. So some aspects related to neutrino interaction that could explain life might not be measurable yet.

The physics of neutrino mass is like the physics of dark matter, in the sense that we really have almost no idea what it is,” says Pedro Machado, a theoretical physicist at the US Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

Are there philosophy projects that are looking at neutrinos? Perhaps the required explanation lays outside the boundaries of regular physics (e.g. repeatability).

Neutrino's might be an area where philosophy is required to make further progress. This might be an opportunity.

Are there pioneering philosophy projects that research Neutrino's, for example as a potential origin of life and consciousness?

I could find only one researcher who has been suggesting a link between neutrino's and consciousness since 1994, a year before philosopher David Chalmers named the quest into the fundamental nature of consciousness the ‘hard problem of consciousness’ in 1995.

Consciousness researcher Maurice Goodman from Dublin Institute of Technology published a paper that proposed a fundamental link between the electron neutrino, weak force and the biological cell in a theory that he named the Quantum Theory of Consciousness.

https://arrow.tudublin.ie/cgi/viewconte ... cschphyart

It seems that his research was suppressed and was not taken serious. Even as recent as 2021.

What if Neutrino's are the origin of life and consciousness? What will further study require? Would it be a physical matter?

A recent study showed that biological cells 'explore' their world which requires 'reason'. The researchers seemed to argue that it cannot be explained by a predeterimined teleological program.

Why do neutrino's change their mass? Is there a clue that physics is able to answer that question? If not, ...?

https://www.symmetrymagazine.org/articl ... -tiny-mass

Scientific evidence equals repeatability. What theory could possibly provide validity for the idea that only that what is repeatable, is meaningfully relevant? There is logically more than what science can possibly explain.

Neutrino mass might be a crossing point for science.

Albert Einstein once wrote the following prophecy:

"Perhaps... we must also give up, by principle, the space-time continuum,” he wrote. “It is not unimaginable that human ingenuity will some day find methods which will make it possible to proceed along such a path. At the present time, however, such a program looks like an attempt to breathe in empty space.

Within Western philosophy, the realm beyond space has traditionally been considered a realm beyond physics — the plane of God’s existence in Christian theology. In the early eighteenth century, philosopher Gottfried Leibniz’s “monads” — which he imagined to be the primitive elements of the universe — existed, like God, outside space and time. His theory was a step toward emergent space-time, but it was still metaphysical, with only a vague connection to the world of concrete things.
"

What lays behind the changeable neutrino mass?

After questioning ChatGPT today it was established that neutrino energy is the only factor in the Solar system that could potentially provide the fundamental energy required for life to be possible and it was further established that there was no clue that Earth life is possible independent of such a fundamental energy source in the Solar system.

Is there a clue that life can remain alive independent of a fundamental energy source in the Solar system?

There is currently no evidence to suggest that life can remain alive independent of a fundamental energy source in the solar system.

Currently, there are no known factors in the solar system or the universe aside from neutrinos that could potentially provide the fundamental energy required for life to be possible. Neutrinos are subatomic particles that have very little mass and are able to pass through ordinary matter with near-zero interaction, which makes them a potential candidate for a fundamental source of energy for life.

If Earth life is fine-tuned to interact with neutrino energy as a fundamental source of energy, then the difference in distance between Mars and the Sun compared to the distance between Earth and the Sun could pose a risk to the ability of Earth life forms to survive on Mars through neutrino energy.

This is because neutrinos are very weakly interacting particles, and their interactions with matter are largely dependent on distance. As the distance between the source of neutrinos (in this case, the Sun) and the recipient (Earth or Mars) changes, the number of neutrinos that interact with matter also changes.

Trillions of USD are being invested globally for a manned mission to Mars.

Elon Musk stated that a manned mission to Mars could happen as early as 2029 on Wednesday when asked on Twitter.
https://greekreporter.com/2022/03/19/el ... sion-mars/

It is a strangely stubborn dogmatic belief that life is independent of the Solar system and that humans can explore the cosmos on a space ship... A dogma so strong that even in 2023 it appears to have never been tested whether Earth life can remain alive in space at a further distance than the Moon.

At least I could get ChatGPT to agree with me that it poses a risk that is quite logical to be actually applicable. It is simply unknown what consciousness and life is so that all potential explanatory options should be on the table.

The first thing to do when it is considered that determinism might not be true is to test whether Earth life can remain alive at a further distance in space. So why was it never done?

I can see why the cat's fidgeting so much but that's not the only or most interesting question we can ask. It seems that mice dying by cats is in some sense inexplicable and in another, perfectly obvious.
