Re: Are we the last humans on Earth?
Civilization actually reached its peak around 2000, and then started its final descent, first it was slow but has gained much momentum in recent years. We especially have to be thankful to the Americans who first elected Bush Jr. then Trump, two of the most important figures that steered the world towards Armageddon, and so shortened humanity's coming death struggle. We also should be thankful for social media, where the masses of idiots could make their voices heard like never before. Now we also have the first pandemic, with the advancements of gene technology, in a few years we may have several at the same time. Global warming is also starting to kick into overdrive. More and more chaos seems to be coming, we are on the right track for the upcoming nuclear conflicts, and then all hell will brake loose.
It's no one's fault really, humanity was never meant to last. It was just a stepping stone.

One of my many weaknesses is a tendency to flippancy. I tend to like gallows humour and a "if you don't laugh you'll cry" attitude. It doesn't mean that I don't take our present situation seriously, although, of course, I don't know what exactly you understand to be our "present situation".popeye1945 wrote:Steve, You obviously do not take our present circumstances all that seriously, must be comforting
If you literally think that our present situation is that we are the last humans on Earth - i.e. that 100 years from now, or less, the human population of Earth will be zero - then clearly, barring a huge asteroid strike or similar, that's absurd. Of course we're not the last humans on Earth. That doesn't mean we don't have serious problems. Some people (including many here) think that it is the growing human population, not any notion that the population will shortly shrink by 100%, that is the problem.

Re: Are we the last humans on Earth?
What do you mean? Are you talking about the subject of taking action to reduce the human population of the Earth? If so, that topic has been discussed a lot. It was discussed at enormous length in a topic on this site until very recently, for example.popeye1945 wrote:I wonder though why population reduction is not even a topic for discussion, when its suicidal to do nothing in that area.
You seem to be saying "If we don't take action to reduce the human population, the human population will be wiped out in a generation". Is that what you're saying? If so, can you see the contradiction in it?Are we the last humans on the earth? Well there is a good chance we are, our success and recklessness has done great damage to the environment. Even today we don't seem to be able to deal with that impending danger. A concerted effort to reduce population through the processes of self-control don't seem to be happening.
Are you suggesting that Covid-19 could eradiate the human race? If not, what exactly are you suggesting? This pandemic might metaphorically be consider the earth trying to cleans itself, as it does with other creatures who have on self=control. After which the earth will continue in its processes but without us.

Trump has just fired his chief of defence and put another of his cronies in place - why?

Obviously, it is time to nuke Moscow because Trump's buddy Vladimir did not help him enough in this election.
