Are we the last humans on the earth? Well there is a good chance we are, our success and recklessness has done great damage to the environment. Even today we don't seem to be able to deal with that impending danger. A concerted effort to reduce population through the processes of self-control don't seem to be happening. It is as if as a globe perhaps even a national perspective there is no mind, no collective will, we are reactive creatures but we seem to sitting in the middle of the road viewing the truck which is about to run over us, if your thinking pathetic that seems appropriate for the context. I believe it just underline our lack of self=control. This pandemic might metaphorically be consider the earth trying to cleans itself, as it does with other creatures who have on self=control. After which the earth will continue in its processes but without us.

I suppose every generation of extant humans gets to collectively speculate that they might be the last generation of humans on Earth for approximately 1/3 of a second. Then it's the turn of the next generation.

Yes, if there is any purpose to our existence, then it probably involves humanity's end in 20-30 years max, probably almost everyone will die, maybe everyone. Have to make room for the final step of evolution, which won't be machines btw., some people are already preparing for it. Imo the coming extinction is why we shouldn't fault those who don't want to have children anymore.

Civilization actually reached its peak around 2000, and then started its final descent, first it was slow but has gained much momentum in recent years. We especially have to be thankful to the Americans who first elected Bush Jr. then Trump, two of the most important figures that steered the world towards Armageddon, and so shortened humanity's coming death struggle. We also should be thankful for social media, where the masses of idiots could make their voices heard like never before. Now we also have the first pandemic, with the advancements of gene technology, in a few years we may have several at the same time. Global warming is also starting to kick into overdrive. More and more chaos seems to be coming, we are on the right track for the upcoming nuclear conflicts, and then all hell will brake loose.

It's no one's fault really, humanity was never meant to last. It was just a stepping stone.

Atla, I agree with most of what you say, but stepping stones, meant to last, who might be doing this meant-----ING!

One of my many weaknesses is a tendency to flippancy. I tend to like gallows humour and a "if you don't laugh you'll cry" attitude. It doesn't mean that I don't take our present situation seriously, although, of course, I don't know what exactly you understand to be our "present situation".

If you literally think that our present situation is that we are the last humans on Earth - i.e. that 100 years from now, or less, the human population of Earth will be zero - then clearly, barring a huge asteroid strike or similar, that's absurd. Of course we're not the last humans on Earth. That doesn't mean we don't have serious problems. Some people (including many here) think that it is the growing human population, not any notion that the population will shortly shrink by 100%, that is the problem.

Steve. There are different levels of alarm, you seem fairly well grounded. I wonder though why population reduction is not even a topic for discussion, when its suicidal to do nothing in that area. Humanity is going to leave it to mother nature.

What do you mean? Are you talking about the subject of taking action to reduce the human population of the Earth? If so, that topic has been discussed a lot. It was discussed at enormous length in a topic on this site until very recently, for example.
Are we the last humans on the earth? Well there is a good chance we are, our success and recklessness has done great damage to the environment. Even today we don't seem to be able to deal with that impending danger. A concerted effort to reduce population through the processes of self-control don't seem to be happening.
You seem to be saying "If we don't take action to reduce the human population, the human population will be wiped out in a generation". Is that what you're saying? If so, can you see the contradiction in it?
This pandemic might metaphorically be consider the earth trying to cleans itself, as it does with other creatures who have on self=control. After which the earth will continue in its processes but without us.
Are you suggesting that Covid-19 could eradiate the human race? If not, what exactly are you suggesting?

I only state the obvious, that without population control we can look forward to an environment that we cannot live in. The world will keep turning but without us. In examples of areas of over population where are animal cousins have been concerned, it is nature that thins the population out. The same seems to be happening as we speak. To be sure it isn't going to happen overnight, change which happens to fast in geological terms, means organisms cannot adapt and so must perish. The quote L.S B. Leaky, Change or perish! meaning if we do not change our ways we will indeed perish. That was the late fifties or early sixties. Covid -19 and climate change are just the starters, hold unto your hat.

Are we the last humans on Earth?

Trump has just fired his chief of defence and put another of his cronies in place - why?
What's this man who is currently having a nervous breakdown planning to do?

Obviously, it is time to nuke Moscow because Trump's buddy Vladimir did not help him enough in this election.

Perhaps he was worried that the previous chief of defence was stealing his precious bodily fluids. But it's probably something even weirder than that. Life is now considerably stranger than Dr Strangelove.
