Looking for Reading Material On "Jungian" Existential Nihilism

Post by JesterQueen »

Nihilism is about the absence of a God to give our lives meaning. The idea that without that mother figure in the sky we simply have no reason to abide by any rules because nothing matters and we're just insignificant little ants. I'm driven by this subconscious or inevitable sense of compassion and empathy while maintaining a belief in nihilism. I don't really see any contradictions in abstaining from the things that motivate us despite the futility of it all. Like not walking on a hot stove (lol) or taking pain meds to alleviate a migraine. We can also extend that same idea to compassion and empathy or narrative. Story, (Carl Jung) shadow, archetypes, mother figures, it's all a part of an unconscious system almost where we are just compelled in the direction of less pain whether growing in complexity of meaning and spanning across a biography's worth of pages or the simplest intuition of pain avoidance. But there's also this death drive (hostility toward self) a desire to change by confronting what you have been avoiding the most. Maybe you're insecure and someone calls you a coward for being so needy or clingy. You give in and agree creating a sense of self hatred. Because how can u not hate the worst of what you are especially when it's always been an integral part of who you are? You've defended yourself over and over again only to realize how dumb you are. Is there anything with this kind of sentiment or idea in mind? I know Existential Nihilism is close but I want something that leans into Carl Jung's theory of the shadow since I feel it's integral to living a good life.

And what is your aim in posting this? Do you have questions? The title says you're looking for reading material. I'm sure that asking DuckDuckGo about "Jungian Existential Nihilism" will get you some links.... What is it that you want to discuss here?

JesterQueen, you seem to have posted the same text on Reddit, under the name "datalchemist". What are you after? Is this a genuine post, or...?

I'm working on a video essay for youtube and I want more information on both these topics and if I can find work that has talked about both these topics in tandem it will help me better articulate myself and also not potentially plagiarize or seem misinformed. Also most of my thoughts on the topic are hard to access like most things with me I sort of have to write them down or they fade into the background until something reminds me of it lol. It's sort of like crytomnesia in that sense. So basically for research purposes and also inspiration. I don't mind reading about both topics separately but if I can find some combination of the two even better.
