lionfish and the theory of evolution
Evolutionists frequently point out that the lionfish's bright red color is so predators will avoid their poisonous barbs. And they say the blue stripes are excellent camouflage.
How miraculous it is that evolution can explain anything and everything, even defining two entirely contrary selection pressures that produce two entirely different colors for the same fish. One can't prove it wrong.
That was Popper's objection.

Teleology does not equal evolution, BTW.ernestm wrote: ↑March 26th, 2022, 6:27 am Most lionfish are red, but some are blue, creating an excellent example of Popperian absurdity.

That's ensured by the central dogma of molecular biology. On this dogma Dawkins' books on evolution are based. I can invent a new evolution, say based on the altruistic gene and meme, which you can't prove wrong.ernestm wrote: ↑March 26th, 2022, 6:27 am Most lionfish are red, but some are blue, creating an excellent example of Popperian absurdity.

However, when people try to explain particular traits as having "evolutionary value" they are often winging it, guessing, or assuming the antecedant.

Indeed. Ipso facto. The central dogma though, states that no information can flow downward, i.e. from the organism to the DNA, which is highly questionable. Experiments can even be interpreted as falsifying the dogma. Moreover, it were the protein pre-DNA lifeforms introducing the ribosome and DNA once.
