What are the main topics in the book and the answers to various issues? I'm curious, because I don't read books anymore, but I'm always interested in what other people write about. And why, but this is another sidetopic, not available to pursue so far.

Funny that you ask this question on philosophy forum, because the longer you stay in here the further you are from answer. It's the scientific knowledge, having nothing in common with "philosophy" chit-chats, instead having much in common with hard work, observations, analysis, personal engagement etc. So the answer is - probably there is, but the answer is certainly not in here. 8)

EMTe, may we not hope to improve, or do you think that we are chattering to pass the time , or what? Does trickle-down apply to chattering meet-ups? I must say, I select which posts I bother to reply to as my time is limited contrary to what my huge total of posts seems to indicate. However there are people here who obviously know no philosophical jargon or have little experience of philosophy but just as obviously have good minds. I do need to do more studying and less chitchat, but I don't get the opportunity to meet serious thinkers much in real life, and this philosophyclub supplies this after a fashion. When one reads books the conversation with the author is imaginary. I could Google for anthropological knowledge but I do like to covertly suggest what may be the areas in which researches could answer questions.

You are doing this too in your reply to Rainchild . I guess you are an experienced teacher.

Hail to them. Philosophy as the branch of human activity is in a desperate need of total refurbishment. Philosophy forums dont help the case, because they prefer to preserve the oldschool understanding of philosophy. What Socrates or Kant have to do with globalistation, various equalities, internet, mass communication? They breathed the different air.

Adapt.

Beauty is something like this. The word "beauty" is the most overused, misunderstood, poorly defined word in the English language. What makes a woman beautiful? "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" . Perception is the key. It is "perception of beauty" that is in the eye of the beholder. Each of us, however, has a different perception of beauty.

Beauty is like a garment, it has to fit the one wearing it, and how the one wearing it wants it to fit.

I thank God for diversity, you can thank whoever you want to thank!
Things are not always as they appear; it's a matter of perception.

The eyes can only see what the mind has, is, or will be prepared to comprehend.

"What is beauty? "

The eyes are scouts for what would please the soul to possess. To define something, to give it meaning as in the act of defining something as particular and beautiful is a biological process from beginning to its end. I somehow expect that the object which is considered beautiful partakes itself of the order and complexity of the biology that is in appreciation of it. In other words, it speaks to the order of your own being, that which is found to be ugly is somehow defective in its organization.

Taken at face value.

With your consent, Belinda, I'd like to start quoting this from time to time. You seem to appreciate that even deconstruction can occur in everyday contexts, as good philosophy should.

You can say that you stick with something as hard and loud as you can, but ultimately you stick only with what was once beautifully called Zeitgeist. You can read about modernism and pretend to claim what they claimed on various subjects, but it all makes you only a fake copy and what's worse - completely aware of this deception.

What is beauty?

It is the perfection in the design of an object, concept, process, strategy, etc. for its intended function, when viewed in a neutral context. Beauty can be found in an effective process for feeding the starving, a Formula 1 race car or an efficiently brutal war strategy.
