I'd say that there are two main factors?
1. We are born with unconscious preprogrammed behaviour such as suckling. Hence we learn much with no decision to be made.
2. Then emotionally we want to learn. Wonder would be a reasonable fit here. Although that would be to ignore negative emotion such as wanting to avoid hunger and the like.
Unknown means unknown.

Knowledge has no beginning simply be cause our Consciousness of Knowledge has no single direct material cause, is an affect, a creation that is born of many sources, is born of the Air, has no specific beginning, comes from somewhere far out in Left Field, appears as if by magic..

Think of the Knowledge of Reality as fruit that comes into our consciousness as the Fruit that comes to bear on the Tree of Life.

There are many Fruit bearing Trees that exist in the Garden of Life.

There is a single Tree at the center of the Garden of Life that bears fruit that has a dual quality,, Absolutely Bad Fruit that is easily mistaken to be Absolutely Good Fruit, Knowledge.

If One eats of the Tree that bears the Knowledge of Good and Evil, his or her State of Consiousnes will surely Die, be laid to rest, place in the Grave, will cease to exist.

Absolute Good Knowledge is Born of Truth, Reality itself, the Material World of Reality, Reality as seen in the Light of Day.

The Sun is the Light unto the World, the World of Reality as seen in the Light of Day.

Ye, Ra, Amen, make it so.

Knowledge is the Fruit that grows on the Many Trees in the Garden.

Knowledge is force upon us through experience, of what ever type.

Correction it is the Knowledge of "Reality" that must be forced down the throat of some.

The naturalized epistemologists might suggest that sensations are starting points of knowledge. So-called sensations, perceptions, bundles of stimulus, etc., might be called 'the beginning (or the beginnings) of knowledge'.
How sensation, bundles of stimulus are starting points of knowledge ?
Every baby KNOWS where to get milk. Thereafter everything new is gain through the senses, obviously.

Where to look, in the face of the mother. How to arrange incoming sense data. IOW a set of meta-knowledge about what to do with incoming information. How to learn. Heuristics.
They have some sense of physics

And we are not in any sense tabular rasa
orseparated twin studies would have worked out rather differently.

Well we are in SOME senses a tabula rasa, but not as much as we used to think.
For example the brain comes fully equipped to recognise human faces, with a specialised region this means humans can see faces in clouds and in the bark of trees, but clearly the slate is utterly blank as to recognising particular faces.
We are ideologically, linguistically, and culturally blank slates, but the potential for culture
languages and ideology we seem to be ready equipped to learn.

Most separated twins tend to find themselves in adoptive relationships with white, western, middle class families, so inferring the lack of difference does not really answer the question about nurture and nature.
However the last example I saw was of two "chinese" girls; one brought up in rural Russia, the other in urban USA. They were very different.

Suppose that you are seeing a red triangle image. In the appropriate circumstances, you know that there are some red triangle image in front of you, from your seeing the red triangle image in front of you. This is a common sense that we come to know a lot by sensing things around us.

So you see what we would call a red triangle in front of you. I don't see how you can conclude that it is in front of you, that there is a you, how the ideas of objects being seen by a subject come up, where one is supposed to focus, etc.

The main point so far is how we know something by sensations. It is one of the topics in epistemology, i.e. philosophy of knowledge or theories of knowledge. The topics about how objects look like to us, and about how we see objects are ones of the topics in philosophy of perception, and in cognitive science.
