On the Mind’s Useful Artistic Masterpieces
For Survival Prime
Of that reality ‘out there’, for sure
We have senses to take it in, as pure.
The brain paints a useful face upon it,
Such as colors for wave frequencies, etc.
The Greatest Artist
Yet it’s too a work of the finest art
That can only be seen in consciousness,
As living 3D paintings by the brain—
A neural artist of the highest reign.
The Ultimate Portrayal
Mind’s artful beauty is unparalleled;
Man’s pale works of imitation impelled
Can ne’er match its depth, glory and splendour,
Range, likeness, delineation, or wonder.
Sense Gatherings
Light peels information off an object;
Air waves carry vibrations select;
Odors are molecules brought to inspect;
Our reality’s in what brains connect.
The Viewport to Reality
The senses are as spy outposts upon Reality;
The brain’s developed language of qualia
Portrays the results of the depictions produced
By the vast array of neural connections.
The Screening Time
Consciousness is referred back in time a bit,
Like the tape-delay of a live TV show,
To hide the brain’s processing time from us,
Making things seem to happen instantly.
Reality is Real-ized
All we ‘see’ are the insides of our heads,
A model of reality. “No”, we say;
Well, it’s the same model used in our dreams,
With our eyes closed and us in darkness, too!
Useful Representations
Not only is ‘seeing’ inside our heads,
But also the hard-soft-texture of touch,
The scents of molecule shapes, and the sounds
Of air waves—again, as in a night dream.
Tuning In
‘Reality’ plays within our theater,
A wide-awake dream. What’s really out there
Are waves and fields, which our brains to minds
Show in representative ways, like ‘red’.
A Receiver
The brain is like a TV tuner, reading waves
That originate in/out there entirely;
Hard reality is usefully re-presented,
Similar to our dreams that seem so real.
Making Sense
Absolute Reality is scentless,
Colorless, and quite soundless; however,
Sense organs detect waves and vibrations—
This Reality is painted upon.
A Better Face Painted Upon
Hard reality is constructed by our brains,
From a mass of frequency domains,
As when sound waves turn into sound, so the
Apparent physical world is a portrayal.
No Radar
One does not outright walk across a room,
In a naive direct reality;
Rather, it comes to us and gets modeled,
And it’s in that model that we walk through.
Movie Starring
A full virtual reality can be
Enjoyed and directed in lucid dreams,
Where one can do anything at all, without
Injury or penalty, with real feel!
Speedy Searches
A simple four-way lookup senses taste
By degrees of bitter, salt, sweet, and sour,
And, likewise done, the three-way colors,
Plus ten-plus-way facial recognition.
Instamatic Model
Brains have parallel processors for form,
Texture, color, and depth, and a quick one
For motion detection, which all combine
Later as what we ‘see’ in unity.
Science
Instruments detect what senses can’t mime,
Of all the electromagnetic clime,
Of fields and molecules past smell and sight,
Of stars far away and way back in time.
The Opaque Sources
Introspection’s sensation foray,
By itself, uninformed by science theory,
Lies captive to tales of its second story,
Unaware of neuro’s bottom storey.
Painting the Universe
Our minds and senses interpret and dispense
The base reality into the colors and sensations
Of the phenomenal world from the noumenal.
We can become either rainbows or ugly stains!
Living Rainbows
Mind, like Shelley’s prism of many-colored glass,
Strains the white radiance of Eternity
Into our lives—until death tramples us—
And then back we must go—to stardust.
