Re: One in a billion shot in the dark
I guess I am a little confused. Is your question about the steps involved with verifying the suthenticity of bearer bonds, or what you would do with an extra $2 billion? I don't know anything about such assests, but if I suddenly had a huge windfall, I would set up a foundation for the majority of it, to set up ways of giving it away. I would probably purchase a second home and roughly double the number of vacations we take, though for the most part, I wouldn't change much of what I do.WanderingGaze22 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2021, 3:14 am Imagine someway, somehow you find a bearer bond worth $2B USD. It seems like the genuine article. Quick facts: bearer bond usage has dwindled to little to none worldwide and the rarest bearer bond is worth $1M. However, bearer bonds are just as vulnerable to theft as actual money, meaning whoever possess it can legally use it. Of course, a surefire way to verify the $2B bond's authenticity is to bring it to a government branch that deals with bearer bonds. The question isn't who can you trust not to double cross you but who would take the chance to cash in the payday of the millenium? Should the public learn of the existence of a valuable piece of paper? Would you keep it secret from the world or would you risk the greatest rat race in history? What measures do you think would help insure no one will go to any lengths to take this chance for themselves if there was even the slightest belief it is in every meaning of the word a one in a two billion chance?

If you try to use it they are going to find out.
It would make sense to put an anoymous ad out to try to return it to its owner and ask for a reward of $500k

I would feel conflicted. As the American philosopher, Bernie Sanders, said: "Billionaires should not exist," and I agree wholeheartedly. No-one should be permitted to amass so much wealth under personal control, for personal use. In case no-one has noticed, there isn't enough wealth to go around...WanderingGaze22 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2021, 3:14 am Feel free to discuss what you would do with two billion dollars just for fun.

Actually there is plenty of wealth in the world so that everyone could have a roof over their head and have enough food to live on.Pattern-chaser wrote: ↑November 26th, 2021, 8:02 amI would feel conflicted. Sadly whilst Africans are still getting cobalt out of the rock with hammer and chisel to get enough money to barely stay alive, Elon Musk is exploiting that cobalt for the batteries in electric cars that he sells to increase his 292 billion dollars. He could pay them all 100x more for their efforts and this would change the cost of the cars by a couple of dollars, yet her prefers get richer whilst the cjhildren suffer.

Interesting, 5 billion is more than enough to help the children in Africa for decades, but the bigger picture is simultaneously my point on whomever learns about this payday will be extremely tempted to exploit it. It would appear that no good deed goes unpunished after all.Sculptor1 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2021, 12:00 pmActually there is plenty of wealth in the world so that everyone could have a roof over their head and have enough food to live on.Pattern-chaser wrote: ↑November 26th, 2021, 8:02 amI would feel conflicted. Until we figure out equal and fair distribution as well as a way of life that doesn't require draining vast amounts of the same resources we need to survive, that is the truth. Resolve and capability, not money and manipulation must be the dream we all must share to find the answer.

Giving reproductive rights to women; handing out cash to the poorest; and building schools and other infrastructure projects all helps the economy.WanderingGaze22 wrote: ↑November 28th, 2021, 4:01 amUntil we figure out equal and fair distribution as well as a way of life that doesn't require draining vast amounts of the same resources we need to survive, that is the truth. If you spend the same money on tax breaks for the rich that harms the economy.
These are fact, yet I am called a socialist (like an insult) for even thinking those thoughts.
