I do not think it is correct to imply that logic is used in reasoning. Logic is reasoning. I believe that asking about the effectiveness of logic in reasoning is analogous to asking about the effectiveness of vision in sight.
"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."
I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

Intuition - direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process; immediate apprehension.(Dictionary.com)Scott wrote:What do you mean by intuition?

Logic - the science that investigates the principles governing correct or reliable inference.
You say it is incorrect to think that logic is used in reasoning, I don't believe that. I use intuition in reasoning but Intuition is not necessarily logical.

Basically what Im asking is in general when your making a decision or looking for a reason do you use logic or intuition more often?Scott wrote:By those definitions, it seems more accurate to me to say that you sometimes use intuition instead of reasoning rather than saying that you sometimes use intuition in reasoning. But I suppose it depends what is meant by the terms.

I agree, but I think thats what makes intuition superior in certain cases, sometimes conscious thought can just cloud your mind and cause more problems than it solves.Nom de Plume wrote:I'm not so satisfied with the Dictionary definition on 'Intuition'. Whereas I'm inclined towards following up on Intuitive responses with reason and logic. Sometimes those Intuitions are based in evolutionary psychology rather than in some objective sense of reality.anarchyisbliss wrote:I agree, but I think thats what makes intuition superior in certain cases, sometimes conscious thought can just cloud your mind and cause more problems than it solves.Nom de Plume wrote:I'm not so satisfied with the Dictionary definition on 'Intuition'. Logc or intuition
Intuition has basically all the intuitive-rational-sensual knowledgde that was in the conscious mind, but is now in the subconscious mind. It also has new knowledge from the synthesis of what is in the subconscious mind. It is able to come up with a rational answer for the whole problem.
