Maybe he does not want to die a horrible death from syphilis, which could not be cured back then.

Sex is, unfortunately, not just sex. It is a matter of life and death. Literally.
Syphillis was non-existant back then in Europe. ...

There is some debate about that. See, for example:

https://www.shh.mpg.de/1821960/syphilis-before-columbus

But even if syphilis was not a possibility for Robin Hood, other sexually transmitted diseases were:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25969906/

I can definitely appreciate a great concern for sexual fidelity, particularly before the advent of modern medicine. Of course, there presently are sexually transmitted diseases that are not curable, so there is still reason to care about this issue. It is not just a matter of prudishness or religious doctrine. Sex can kill you.

Robin and LJ were imprisoned for stealing children and using their essence to prolong their lives. Marian was a close friend of the Sheriff, who was a regular guest at Robin's and Marian's orgies before he voted himself to be Sheriff-for Life and was forced to settle down. It was Marian's job to procure children for Robin's nefarious schemes. LJ was the muscle.

The entire breakout was staged. You see, the Sheriff and Robin had also been close friends with Friar Tuckstein. They only distanced themselves from him after he'd been caught pressuring initiates for sex and sending pieces of children to a local pizzeria to use in their house pepperoni.

Trouble is, with the Friar, Robin and LJ all in prison, there was a danger that they would squeal and implicate the Sheriff and Marion. But if the Sheriff released the prisoners without reason, he would be in trouble.

So they set up the idea that the Sheriff had been pressured by offers of sex. After all, what red-blooded bloke would blame a fella for grabbin' 'em by the ole kitty-kat when he had the chance? Sure, the Sheriff was flawed, but he's only human, right?

LJ never got together with Marian. She just acted as his "beard" at a few functions until the heat settled and she could return to Robin.

Robin Hood, Maid Marion, Little John, The Sheriff
Your philosophy of life is a sad hotchpotch of the conventions of society, your own convictions and romanticism. You are not unkind, only staid and unimaginative.

Men: You see women as weak but desirable.

Women: You resent the arrogance of men.

This combination represents 4% of total, 4% of men and 3% of women
Your philosophy is a confused mix of romanticism and moralism. 4% total.
Not so far off I guess

The truth, of course, is that Robin and Little John were lovers. That "meet cute" encounter on the log over the river suggests a touch of sado-masochism in their relationship; they enjoy bashing each other with their "staffs". Marian, like many women, is attracted to gay men. She likes Robin's interest in the color coordination of his Merry (a synonym for "gay?) Men's outfits. She likes the coolness of his ardor, just like Maggie the Cat likes Brick's in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." "

The Sherrif wants to get involved in the "Merry Man" scene, but is socially awkward. So he arrests Robin and Little John in order to get to know them better. Marian, blissfully naive about all these shenanigans, seduces the sherrif because she is jealous of the close relationship shared by Robin and Little John, and wants to separate them.

Ugh re attitudes about sex where someone is a "slut" for not being monogamous, for having sex in casual or non-traditional relationship circumstances, etc.

Those attitudes suck.

The use of "suck" as a pejorative is another example of sex-shaming. It suggests that there is something evil or dirty about oral sex (and may be an indirect insult to gay men).

You want to go with the notion that you were being serious?

So you want to sidetrack to a semiotics discussion where I emphasize that your semiotics sucks?

No, I'd prefer not to discuss language with someone who uses the word "sucks" with boring regularity.

 There you go. None were ethically problematic, just that the problems of few queer people just trying to get by don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

1. Marion acted morally under that most challenging circumstances so she's at the top of the list.
2. Little John comes next as he recognizes that Marion acted morally and comes to her aid after Robin rejects her.
3. Robin turns out to be a jerk, worried more about his own reputation than Marion's sacrifice.
4. The Sheriff of Nottingham is simply an evil man in a position of power within an evil system that forces people to break the law to survive.
MM, LJ, RH, SN. Got it. Thanks for your brave answer. Alta turned to the answer page in the back of the magazine. Your "evaluation" is: Happy and well balanced. Some chivalty and/or high standards. 13% of the total answers.

In terms of moral realism:

Marion: worst, because she sacrificed herself for her boyfriend, and she is besmirched for the rest of her life by this sacrifice
Little John: wuss, very bad, because he picks up what other people threw away
Robin: wuss, he was right to discard Marion, but wrong to accept her sacrifice
Sheriff: good, because he comes out the winner in the sex situation, but bad because he released criminals
SN RH LJ MM, got it. Thanks. Next...
Ok baker yours is: Men: You're afraid of women. Women : you like bad boys. 2% of the total answers.
