Steve3007 wrote: June 25th, 2021, 4:56 am Yes, I would say that we have a moral obligation to get vaccinated but I wouldn't go so far as to make it a legal requirement. As you say, the benefits far outweigh the costs. I and everybody I know over the age of 18 have now had at least one shot of one of the vaccines (mostly AstraZeneca and Pfizer here). Most have now had two. I have. First in March, second earlier this month. It is very clear here that as a direct result of this vaccination campaign the amount of serious illness and death caused by Covid 19 before the vaccine rollout has been massively reduced, despite the number of infections rising again. It's absolutely clear from the evidence that the vaccine rollout has broken, or at least severely damaged, the link between infections and deaths. And it's also absolutely clear that, so far at least, the scare stories are largely BS.
Right you are!
I got my first (Biontech/Pfizer) jab yesterday, and I'm proud of it!

Post number 5666 and still nothing of substance.

I guess you consider it more important to reaffirm that you enjoy exchanging sarcastic remarks. No need. It was obvious already.

Up to Post No. 5662, again without saying anything of substance. Just condescension as a substitute for thought.
I doubt you have read them all.
And although you might not like the few you have read, does not give you a warrant to traduce his entire effort.

I've lost track. Is this the third straight post in which, in lieu of saying anything responsive, you've mumbled something about going "straight" to the evidence? Seems pretty compulsive.

Multiple messages in the past, I said that I considered our so-called "discussion" at an end, because you were refusing to say anything responsive. That still stands. What's gone on since then isn't a "discussion." All that's gone on are your continued messages that are the equivalent of a tape loop, and my amused responses. If you want to keep it up in this vein, fine. If you want to give up, fine. If you want to give me a response that actually says something, I'll respond in kind. Your choice. I'm not waiting with bated breath however this proceeds or doesn’t proceed.

It shouldn't be hard for you to find the two messages in which I recited some of the evidence. The fact that those messages also discussed how I thought the evidence tied together and lead to my conclusion hardly means that evidence wasn't mentioned. Your tape loop doesn't change what's there in my messages for all to see.

But I think I'm starting to see where you're coming from. You're waiting for COVID to kill enough people that the virus simply burns itself out, eliminating the need for more vaccinatations to be administered.

And then you'll be right.

Nice!
This novel species of Corona virus has no precedent.
There are already serveral variants and we have no reason to suppose that it will burn out.
Analogues from previous pandemics do not necessarily apply.
Whatever the "Spanish Flu" was, the human reace benefitted from a comparitively low population density as compared to today and far less international travel.
1919 population 1.8 billion
2019 population 7.7 billion
The massive rise in international travel which it the chief vector of the virus in incalculable.
It took a World War to spread the Spanish flu, despite that it continued in several waves killing betwen 50 and 100 million.
These days in a normal year there are 1.4 billion tourists visits around the world. Add the that the massive increase in world trade upon which much depends for the stability of economies.
Covid is out of the box, and until there is a concerted international vaccine program and an attempt to quosh the idiotic sream of fake news from the antivaxer drivel then it is likely that the variants may well exceed science's ability to renew and redesign vaccines.

Well, of course. Hadn't you heard? I make the moral rules for everyone. :)

Yes, I am being entirely serious.
And presumably, when you said that, you were aware that it would inevitably attract comparisons to things like the labelling of Jews in Nazi Germany? Was it your intention to attract those comments?
No, I did not intend that people should draw bad analogies. That's up to them.

It seems perfectly reasonable that if a person cannot see the value of their moral obligation to take a vaccine then that is their right.
But they should realise that the keepers of shops, and other public buildings also have the right to refuse entry to those that are unvaccinated, and that all persons should be able to know what establishments are following precuations and those that are not.
If a airline refuses to insist on vaccinated patrons only, then anyone wishing the avoid that airline ought to be furnished with the knowlege.

And If a government, by democratic decision makes rules concerning access to services on the basis of vaccinations then that is also within their rights.
