Any Conservatives on this Forum?

Post by anarchyisbliss »

I've noticed that this forum is very liberal and I was just wondering, are there any people on this forum who absolutely condemn homosexuality, abortion, gay rights, the environment, immigrants or any of those liberal things. I would like to hear a conservative view point at least once in one of the topics because it seems like we are all basically liberal here.

If it is true that this forum's members tend to be liberal, then I hope some more conservatives join so we can get more discussion between people with even more diverse viewpoints.

 Then again, people who are 'conservative' about social issues such as homosexuality tend to be traditionalists who hold so-called traditional values, right? Perhaps such traditionalistic people may tend to not be interested in the open-mindedness and multiculturalism of philosophical analysis of their opinions and values, considering that they may prefer to make opinionated judgments based on their traditional values. In shorter words, perhaps the dogmatic nature of traditionalism makes it so traditionalists do not want their traditions philosophically questioned.

Whatever the reason that there seem to be less conservatives here than liberals when it comes to social issues such as homosexuality, I hope we get more conservatives.

Maybe we could all try to think of some conservative, philosophical friends to invite to join these forums.
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

In general, the family values crowd get their views from more of a theological perspective than a philosophical one.

I used to be socialist or liberal democratic, but in the past 30 years I have seen the ship nearly capsize so I hurried to the other side. The big fat problem is misuse of power at least as much as conservatives did before the takeover in the 60s. The hippies climbed their high horses and are now more attached to power and easy living than they ever imagined. Sure, they still believe in one great big family, but anyone not sharing their views is eventually cast out. I keep trying to communicate with these people [1] for I know they just don't know what they don't know and nobody can be blamed for that. They should only test their ideas more often in the real world instead of just seeking dependent confirmation on untestable things or EVEN the ones that can be tested but they don't feel like doing.

I am neither, more in favor of an communist or syndicalist anarchy, or a direct democracy as opposed to our current, representative democracy. I do not approve bestowing vast amounts of influence into the hands of small groups of people, for power corrupts more often than not.

Usually, those who tend to be conservative don't do well with change or listen. Its in the label itself: conserve. But if we were to discuss topics that either conservatives or liberals usualy tend to lean towards, I'm right in the middle. I'm all for Gay rights, but capital punishment as well. I want my guns, but lets protect the environment too. I'm a wierdo but its likely because my parents were split, one a libral and the other a conservative. I'm glad I've had that kind of comentary in my life, and its likely that is why I've chosen to philosophize on a more professional basis.
Better to argue and discuss disenting opinions, than to all agree and never know the truth.

You are mistaken. There is not a single shred of empirical evidence that "hippies", "socialists" or "liberals" have power in the United States. Power is monopolized by wealthy corporations, business-leaders, and conservative interests groups. This has been true since the first sociological power research began (in the 1950s with C. Wright Mills) to the present day.

In fact, conservatives probably have MORE power now than when Mills did his original Power Elite study. Taxes are less progressive, deregulation has occured, social programs are defunded, etc.

I am at a loss as to how you could assume that liberals actually control anything.
