Vote for the February philosophy book of the month

Post by Scott »

Please cast your vote for the February 2013 philosophy book of the month. The poll will be open for 12 days from the time of this post. Whichever book has the most votes by then will be the February book of the month. You can learn more about each book using the links below:

The DIM Hypothesis: Why the Lights of the West Are Going Out by Leonard Peikoff - PhD in philosophy from New York University

The Tyranny of Science by Paul Feyerabend, late professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley

Experimental Phenomenology: An Introduction by Don Ihde - Professor of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Stony Brook

Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche

Farewell to Reason by Paul Feyerabend
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

I will be reading

Godel Escher Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid

Probably for several months

Other philosophical books on my reading list. The Grand Design by S Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow and an apologist reply to this book."God and Stephen Hawking" by John Lennox; Decoding Reality by Vlatko Vedral and the Koran. So for future votes any of the above I would be interested in joining in discussions although I am sure some of these have alredy been discussed.

I've all Nietzsches books and understand none of them. He is a puzzle and one liners just don't make philosophy to me. I'm not a philosopher, I think of myself as an imagineer. All thought comes first from imagining something better than what we have. Rational thought and logic step in and lay out the foundation (this is the part I missed when I slept in class)
