Author is Eusebius.

This is written sometime around 325 A.D. -- the 1st Council of Nicea. Eusebius was there and chronicled it.

Thank you. I read that he was a bishop, so would you say his account is favoring the Catholic church’s story? Gnostics are considered by some, to be the 1st Christians - before the Catholic church. It makes me curious as to what the real origins are.

There are various authors on Christian origins beginning with St. Paul, then St. Mark, then St. Matthew, then St. Luke, then St. John the apostle (not to be confused with the other John's). These are then followed first by Josephus around 79 A.D. and then later by Eusebius in 325 A.D. After Eusebius it gets cloudy together with the history of Rome, Byzantium, and the Catholic Church (big-C, after the 1054 split-up from the Eastern Orthodox Greek Church).

Josephus? I haven’t heard of him. What do you know about him? Sounds interesting. Someone recently brought to my attention, Epictetus who I’m just beginning to read about. He was born about 50 AD - more of a philosopher, but he was around so recently after Christ/Yeshua, so I wonder if he mentions him or as Gnostics are thought to believe - as Christ the Spirit. Either way, this was the supposed time of a new religious movement of Christianity.

I can’t help but wonder if his-story was rewritten, especially during the Inquisition and crusades insanity. Maybe I’m missing known influential people - but it seems that there are few/no philosophers/religious thinkers from about 200 BC (Chrysippus), to St. Augustine in 600 AD. I imagine the fall of Rome also contributed to these voids.

I am a Romantic philosopher like Augustine, Aquinas (more like Aquinas though), Descartes, and Leibniz.

That makes me a Deist, not to be confused with a Theist nor with an Atheist nor Agnostic.

Romantic philosopher sounds so romantic! But I’m guessing & briefly searched to realize you probably mean the mostly German and subjectively realized philosophy? I haven’t formally studied philosophy - just learning as I go. If you don’t mind, how does Romantic philosophy fit with metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, religion etc?

What I read about Deists sounds a bit how my beliefs have evolved. I refer to theology at times, not as infallible deity, but rather cherry picked for wisdom. Are you familiar with Fowler’s stages of faith? http://www.psychologycharts.com/james-f ... faith.html Would you say Deists are like stage 5 (on the left of the chart)?

If you are new to philosophy, then a really good book to get is "History Of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell.

Practically every college starts their own philosophy curriculum with a historical study. Some use Russell's book while others use other ones.

It would be a really good place to start. The book is well written and interesting to read.
