Depends on what government we're talking about, and for what nation. The government's job is what the people want it to be. Even if it is a dictatorship, it is through the peoples action, or inaction, that a certain government is had. What is a Government's job? Protection? Organization? What?
Depends on which military you're talking about. In the US, the national guard ("state militia") is the ONLY constitutionally sanctioned military. Not many things have the potential to stifle the liberties of a free society more than a federalized standing army.Though, I can slightly understand tax money for the military and law enforcement. I would have a feeling too many morons would want neither.
I agree. I dare anyone to produce evidence that the IRS and the federal income tax are anything but unconstitutional in the US (these taxes are akin to the very ones the war of independence was fought for!).it isn't their job to have taxes for everything as well.

pjkeeley: First off, I never said it has ever excited. The question is about what is the government's job. I stated the proper function of a government. However, it has exited as it's proper function because people believe in more and more power for the government since too many people whine about people taking advantage of them instead of using their own rationality and, whilst doing so, complain that the government is taking away rights when they gladly gave them the sanction to do so. A government exiting as it's proper funciton would never exist because people are, apparently, not capable of being free thinking, responsible individuals. It's how it seems to go.pjkeeley wrote:DanteAzrael,
To my knowledge, a government like the one you describe has never existed, and I have difficulty believing such a government could ever exist. Point to me an example from history and I might reconsider.
So, don't tell me has, does, or has not existed. I already know =)
