Fascism comes in two forms
1.Openly gay
2.Closet gay

In Nazi Germany the SA were openly gay, but the SS murdered their leaders and shut them down.
The SS in suppressing their man-love, raped Europe.

Being gay does not mean you are a fascist. But being a fascist means you are gay.

'All the President's Men' - artwork in the White House depicting Trump drinking with his Republican predecessors.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... republican
If it has not already happened someone will make a detailed comparison with DaVinci’s Last Supper.

It is not that Lincoln’s back is to us, the angle is about the same as Junior’s, but his face is obscured because he is looking at Trump, and not only at Trump but up at him even though Lincoln was taller. Trump is not in the center of the picture but is obviously the center, with Eisenhower, Ford, and Roosevelt all leaning toward him, with an opening between Lincoln and Nixon framing Trump, showing his trim physique.

Are they laughing at him or with him?

Fascism, pure and simple. Yup.

The philosopher Jason Stanley has written a book ' How Fascism Works'.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... view-trump

'' The book provides a fascinating breakdown of the fascist ideology, nimbly interweaving examples from Germany, Italy and Hungary, from Rwanda and Myanmar to Serbia and, yes, the US. As he proceeds through his framework of the broadest features of his subject, Stanley includes smaller observations that may for some readers land bracingly close to home.

“In all fascist mythic pasts,” he writes, “an extreme version of the patriarchal family reigns supreme, even just a few generations ago…

“In the rhetoric of extreme nationalists, such a glorious past has been lost by the humiliation brought on by globalism, liberal cosmopolitanism, and respect for ‘universal values’ such as equality. These values are supposed to have made the nation weak in the face of real and threatening challenges to the nation’s existence.”

-----

Another review of the book here:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/11/book ... works.html

''By placing Trump in transnational and transhistorical perspective, Stanley sees patterns that others miss. He notes the apparent paradox that Trump — like many fascist politicians — rode to power in part by attacking government “corruption,” yet practices it even more brazenly himself. The explanation, Stanley suggests, lies in what fascists actually mean by the term. “Corruption, to the fascist politician,” he argues, “is really about the corruption of purity rather than of law. Officially, the fascist politician’s denunciations of corruption sound like a denunciation of political corruption. But such talk is intended to evoke corruption in the sense of the usurpation of traditional order.”

It's so easy to splash the word 'fascist' about without knowing anything of its meaning or history.
Some blame Plato...
I dunno...
But it has to be some historical guy's fault cos yeah, women never had a voice.

Let me ask you, do you think that men can be fundamentally evil?

In regards ti the feminist position...what about Mother Russia or Mother Finland....and so on, isn't this semiotic position necessary for a fascist/nationalistic ideology?

Do you think Trump would have hung the picture if he had been painted realistically?

cavacava - welcome to the forum. Already your are asking interesting questions.
As a quick introduction to my basic knowledge in political politics, I offer up my 'getting started' thread.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15777
I decided to continue the course away from the forum. However, I hope to return...whenever. In the meantime I thought it's one thing to study the art and craft of swimming, quite another to jump in the deep end. So, here I am - drowning !!
[ BTW that was the thread identified by Fooloso4 above where we are discussing lectures on Plato and the Republic. ]

I will reply briefly - for the time being.

Q; Do you think that men can be fundamentally evil?
A: I don't think that anyone is fundamentally evil. I think that behaviour can stretch from the extremes for humans and animals alike. Your thoughts?

Q: In regards to the feminist position...
A: I don't know what that is. What do you think it is ?

Q: What about Mother Russia or Mother Finland...
A: What about them ?...'and so on' ?
We can also ask 'What about the Fatherland' ?

Q: Isn't this the semiotic position necessary for a fascist/nationalist ideology ?
A: I don't know. What is a 'semiotic position' ? What do you think a fascist ideology is ? Is it the same as a nationalist ideology ? What would be a necessary or sufficient requirement to be a fascist - can you apply for membership ?

What would it take to be a feminist fascist or a fascist feminist - what would the policies look like ? Would they involve a good whipping ?

From the article:
"What I think we have in this country is much more traditional conservatism," he said. "The basic social political program is individualism, not for everyone, but [for] entrepreneurs. It supports the right of businesspeople to seek maximum profit without rules of regulations.
This is an interesting point. One problem is that the term “businesspeople” covers both the individual who starts a business and powerful monopolistic corporations with government backing that gobble up individual businesses. Corporate globalism might seem to offset nationalism but many were given huge tax breaks, allegedly to bring back jobs, but conferring much greater benefit to the corporations and the politicians who made it happen.

Burning ghost wrote: October 15th, 2018, 6:06 am I’ll throw one thing out there ... fascism is not the sole property of far right views. Fascism is something that manifests in both far right and far left ideologies.
Well, if we are opening up fascism to include the far left- who generally are not ultranationalists - we might as well look at the fascism of the center: corporatism.

First of all any corporation is a fascist region. It is hierarchical and authoritiarian - thinking first management/board in relation to workers. You may live in a democracy but at work and often in free time also, you are under the thumb of autocrats. Then there is the relation of these regions of fascism to countries, democracy, the environment, poor people, the media and you have more fascist behavior. If the corporation is centered in a democracy - which today means an oligarchy with some degree of pretense to democracy - the fascist nature of the corporation will likely reveal itself more in other countries.

This fascism of the center is generally considered sort of a given, something that must be allowed or, even, is good, in capitalism or modern society or free societies. Something only people considered extremists even notice is problematic as a rule not as the exception.
