If these changes do occur it won't be by the might of China now or in the future but the West which made itself weak for whatever number of reasons, intentional or not, that would cause these changes to happen. If the West weren't its own worst enemy, the likes of China, now one of the most disgusting and evil nations on the planet, could never be in control as outlined. In a way China depends on Western consumerism to deteriorate the West into the kind of submission that can only object to China's policies through words and protests which only proves to them our weakness. Western corporations which build there own infrastructures in China and in the process giving up their intellectual property to do so are the greatest traitors of their own hemisphere. The West is rotting from the inside and will eventually get what it deserves likely to entail the complete corruption of its culture.

Greta wrote: August 11th, 2020, 9:43 pm Without those issues, the US may have been wealthy and respected enough to keep China in check.
Someday, when they believe they have amassed the right amount of economic and military might, a pretense will arise. It might be about Taiwan, or trade, or who knows. They will then play their "Trump" card (pun intended), and call in the debt. We will be ruined, or we will decide that we can not pay it. They will either buy up or nationalize all the factories we have built there, and seal themselves off from the west, which will not have enough manufacturing capacity to keep up, nor the economic might to ramp up. They will be the super power, and we will be a bigger version of England, a 'once great' nation.

At that point, they can push into whatever places they want, without a realistic threat of consequences from the west, as our declaring war upon them might amount to suicide.
On the other hand, China and the US have become so financially intertwined that the destruction of one would bring down the other. We live in an era of both nuclear and economic M.A.D. China also has a major issue with climate change, with the north of the country, with over half a billion people, predicted to become uninhabitable later this century.

Still, your prediction of the US becoming a "once great" country like the UK seems likely. Ultimately it's the Pentecostal evangelists who have brought the US down. Those entrusted as the unofficial keepers of morality completely abrogated their moral responsibilities in favour of tribalism. We can now see clearly where tribalism gets a nation - and history taught China that too, hence their dictatorial intolerance of any splinter movements, including religions.

There seems to be little effective difference at this point between living in China or Hong Kong. It is chilling that the CCP thinks they can arrest or extradite people in other countries with citizenship in those countries for nothing more than voicing their opinions.
If I am a non-Chinese tourist in Vietnam having once said that Taiwan is independent of China, would I be extradited to Hong Kong or China? It is scary. For the record, I have not said that. To play safe, I can shut up.

To which the CCP says "mission accomplished". They rely on people's logic and self-preservation.

The CCP's mindset is reminiscent of the Holy Inquisition in France in the 1200s, where heresy was vigorously hunted down, with people tortured and murdered for honesty and openness.

Almost a millennia of social progress is being swept away by ever-growing ignorance in both the polity and the populace.

My immediate concern is not on the CCP's mindset, but on whether I would be extradited from a third country, to China or Hong Kong, if I can be accused of violating China's Security Law. This is a personal concern.

Yes, that is a worry. My understanding was that Chinese expats needed to be careful no matter where they are. Expat CCP loyalists are scattered around the globe, apparently keen to earn brownie points by reporting peers who fail to be sufficiently politically correct.

What if you are Australian, not Chinese expats? Would you worry because you have said something here violating Chinese National Security Law, and next you are vacationing in Laos which has extradition treaty with China?

I never thought of it. I gave up travel long ago. If an Australian was "stolen" by China in that way, there's nothing Australia could do about it. Maybe complain to an international body neutered in recent years by the US? Try to stick itself under the sole of China's shoe again?
