Re: Vegetarianism
I'd rather allow some of that land for grazing animals, rather than turn the entire temperate zone into one big poly-tunnel, or plough the living daylights out if it for more mono culture.
Correction. Since I started to type the net population has risen to 40,827,510

But it's impossible to feed all the people grass fed meat. Most meat is not from happy grazing animals.Sculptor1 wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2020, 4:30 am The elephant in the room is, as usual, the 40,827,200 extra population since Jan 1st. It does not matter what we eat, we cannot continue to feed more and more people without destroying the world.

That is not a solution. It is a band aid over a gaping wound.
Another 80,000 increase in the world's population since last night.

Re: Vegetarianism
That is hardly any help, Sculptor. I asked what you would do and it seems you want to complain how bad things are.

Thanks for introducing Umami, the Meaty Taste, as below:Belindi wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2020, 3:13 am
as to the method employed to change eating habits, I agree with you a sudden revolution is not as good as gradual adjustment to less and less flesh eating. There are several strategies such as smaller portions of meat compared with portions of plants. Such as cookery skills directed at getting umami flavour from plants.

This fifth basic taste - alongside sweet, sour, salty, and bitter - was named umami, meaning "savoriness" in Japanese.
It is not as good as the real thing. But then, nothing can be as good as the real thing. Perhaps the trouble is with what we are asking for. If I keep thinking about beef when I am eating something competitive in taste, I would be holding beef as the unreachable beacon.
Let us forget about meaty taste for umami. Call it the Cherile Taste, from the word cherish: to feel or show great tenderness or care for.

I am over joyed that the Weatherspoons morons are soon to be out in the streets consuming the precursor, so that the supply can be renewed.
