"Literal" isn't mutually exclusive with "common."
Okay, this is, 'literally', EXACTLY what I was previously thinking as well. So, we have, at least, some thing in 'common' here.
Terrapin Station wrote: July 4th, 2020, 9:42 am That some language isn't literal doesn't imply that all language isn't, right?
Yes, just like that some language is not, so called, "conventional" or "common" does not imply that all language is not, right?

After all, part of the skill set for 'you' to be able to understand and reason, far more than you can now, is to NOT make the continual assumptions and hold those beliefs that you do now. See, if you want to understand "others", then you have to REALLY STOP assuming and believing that 'you' KNOW what the RIGHT definitions and meanings of words are.
Terrapin Station wrote: July 4th, 2020, 9:42 am Again, part of the skill set that one needs to not function like an Aspie is the ability to tell the difference and not assume that everything is all one way or the other.
But if one has been labeled with "asperger's", then one HAS TO function as one. This is because if they did NOT function as one, then they would NOT be one of them, correct?

Also, from what I have observed, there is NO actual advantage to not functioning like one with "asperger's". Also, WHY do you bring up the word 'aspie' quite often in these threads. Have you been diagnosed with 'asperger syndrome'?

We can add that to the list of beliefs you hold.

You can make up absolutely anything you like, and then add it to whatever you like, but, obviously, this does not make it necessarily true.

Now, adding the word 'we' in relation to what one them self does, does tend to help that one feel not so alone. Using the word 'we' also helps these people to feel "because others will be doing this with me, then that makes it all right for me to do it". That way they feel "justified" in NOT having to look at 'what is being pointed out' to them, about what they do or do not do. While one is sub-consciously thinking, or saying, ' "we" do this ', then they feel "justified" in the behavior they are doing, which is actually a WRONG behavior.

Is any of this getting you any closer to anything you wanted to discuss?

With you, no. I don't consider you either capable of or worthwhile for that, whether it's because of you intentionally playing the buffoon, as I suspect many people do on philosophy boards, in chat rooms, etc. (because charitably I can't imagine that many people being such a buffoon while being intelligent or educated in some respects), or whether it's unintentional and indicative of other problems.

Okay, but you seem to respond to just about EVERY one of my replies to you, just like how one does when they WANT to have a discussion with some one else. So, some would be seeing and imagining that really you do want to discuss some thing with 'me', although you consider 'me' to be INCAPABLE OF, and not even WORTHWHILE, to have a discussion with. Or maybe you are just one of those people that just has to always get the last word in.

Just out of curiosity, do you consider your own self to be CAPABLE of and WORTHWHILE to have a discussion with?

From a lot of what you have written here so far many would say you are NOT. This is because you seem to BELIEVE that you KNOW how words are "generally used" AND HOW they "should be" used, which, by all accounts, is just a ridiculous notion to have and hold, especially if one wants to have a Truly OPEN and Honest discussion, which is what is actually needed to find the answers to ALL philosophical discussions.
