To what degree is American Politics a knocking shop for the MOB?

Take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and listen.

How is it that there are some (but too few voices) talking about systemic (and sadly legal) corruption in the AMerican political system, yet they are all Democrats?
If this worries you then why are you still voting Republican.
If there are any Trumpers on the Forum, have you opened your eyes to what he has done yet?

To the credit of this forum you will find very few Trumpers here :!:

And now 'maybe' the facts are starting to catch up with the psycho who somehow became President in 2016
- Time he pays for his crimes

Donald Trump exposed the weaknesses in our system of government that could now be exploited by a corrupt leader with control of the White House. In this series, the Globe editorial board outlines the urgent reforms needed to prevent the rise of an American tyrant — and to protect our democracy for posterity.
Before the day Donald Trump moved into the White House in 2017, Americans had never had to contend with a president in such deep financial trouble — and with such determination to conceal his true finances from the public. Trump’s business empire — the one he espoused during the campaign as an example of his purported financial acumen — was nothing more than a hollow gold-plated shell. While he was dumping money into his hotels, his golf courses, and his real estate deals, they were netting him almost nothing but significant losses year after year. By the time he was running for reelection, Trump was over $400 million in debt, most of which would have been due during his second term should he have won in 2020.

And yet for nearly four years, there was effectively nothing whatsoever the public could do about it. As was the case for so many of the countless outrageous abuses of his presidency, the former president largely got away with serving a full term in which he bargained with foreign leaders, signed tax legislation, and named financial regulators, without ever coming clean about his own personal debts and the conflicts of interest and opportunities for corruption they created. While there are supposed to be laws and limits on the presidency, Trump was unrestrained, exposing just how toothless those safeguards have become and just how urgently the nation needs to reform the office of the presidency itself.

And as the dominoes start to fall

Trump Organization found guilty of tax fraud scheme
NEW YORK, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Donald Trump's real estate company was convicted on Tuesday of carrying out a 15-year-long criminal scheme to defraud tax authorities, adding to the legal woes facing the former U.S. president as he campaigns for the office again in 2024.

New York magazine is taking a harsh swipe at President Trump with its new cover depicting the president as a pig.

Well yes, however.
The problem goes far deeper than one president.
Trump was able to thrive as a crook within the system as it is.

When I think back to Nixon, and the sort of things he was able to do. It was not just the Watergate affair, but Nixon was able to fund, from government money an extra-governmental organisation who performed break-ins, robberies and even kidnapping, with no scrutiny.
His mantra "If the president does it, it is not illegal", was his watch word - I would have thought that after nearly 50 years something would have been done to rein in the power of the potas.

And when Bush decided to play golf handing over power the Cheney - what was the result?

Biden is currently operating with the same set of powers.

There are few speaking against it because most of them benefit in extreme measure from the status quo. I see only AOC, Bernie Sanders and a couple others having anything to say about this, and no widespread support among congressmen to close any ethical loopholes. I will give credit to Liz Cheney as a voice from the Republicans, and a few other R's are beginning to speak out against Trump, who is the most extreme and obvious example of corruption and lack of ethics. I see no hope of fixing the system. Enough voters would need to wake up to the problem and hold politicians accountable at the polls. The threat of losing their 'job' is the only thing that would motivate them to grudgingly do something right, even if it was for the wrong reasons.

https://news.yahoo.com/rep-alexandria-o ... 46856.html

AOC faced an immediate threat to her job as reprisal for telling the truth, and Liz Cheney got the axe for standing up to Trump. So, even if a few rebels want to stand up, they are more likely to get shot down by the cheaters than the cheaters are to get voted out. The media shares some blame for not always telling the truth, and for the outlets that are completely in the tank (cough, Fox, cough).

Psychology has been weaponized in the media. Murdoch is the biggest offender, but foreign governments also influence social media to promote their agenda (cheaper, safer, and more effective than tariffs, sanctions or military conflict with us). Also, the algorithms used by social media create spirals of fear and hate that drive people like the power grid terrorists. Nabisco is fine that you get sick and die too early a few years from now as long as they make more money from you today. Similarly, Facebook et al are fine with you swimming in fear and hate and ultimately voting and acting against your own best interests in the future, as long as it gets them more 'looks' and therefore more money today.

I am the furthest thing from a Trumper, but I know many, and none are close to changing their minds. They will slowly drift from Trump and gravitate to DeSantis by 2024 (because that is what Murdoch wants; Trump has outlived his usefulness), but he is just the same turd in a shinier box.
"If determinism holds, then past events have conspired to cause me to hold this view--it is out of my control. Either I am right about free will, or it is not my fault that I am wrong."
