I think that when we make decisions we do chose and then get what we choose. However, I think that many people don't really consider all the impacts of our choices so that's when people feel they didn't get what they chose.

After reading others comments, I will offer a couple of thoughts.

One is that sometimes we make a choice thinking one outcome will occur yet something different happens.

Secondly, what about destiny vs conscious choice.

This statement is true because there is no such thing as a bad choice. A bad choice is merely one that isn't the best option for you, but a good choice will always serve your needs. This statement also applies to the way we live our lives. When we make a decision about where to live, for example, we are making a choice about where to live and how our lives will be spent in that area. The truth is that if we don't like our current situation, it's easy enough to make a change!

Obviously, what you want is what you choose. . . .at the time. But sometimes it becomes what you want, even if it wasn’t at the time.

I believe that I agree with the general intention of the quote, which is the concept of mentality. However, I cannot fully say that I truly agree with the notion of the quote. There are many people who are placed in terribly unlucky situations and the usage of this quote could indicate blame for being born into a tragic lifestyle even if they had zero control over the circumstances of their birth.

Sushan wrote: November 12th, 2022, 4:31 am I saw this discussion topic before reaching the quoted page, and to be honest it did not make much sense. Now I have read the whole thing and I know what you have really conveyed through that quote.

I think the above-mentioned quote can be added to what you quote (from the same page) and then it will make more sense. IMO, what we think of as choices are not really choices. We have to identify what choices are, and then only we will get to see the truth bbehind your quote.

Indeed, we get exactly what we choose. If we cannot choose, either it is not a choice, or it is not ours to choose. A brilliant thought.

I completely agree with this. You have some choices made that you can't control; you just have adapt and look at the options you can control to handle that barrier.
And I would like to add something to this idea. We should not mix this concept with laziness. It is different to just stop fighting for something because you are lazy to go for it from not fighting for something because it is not really up to you to decide the future, the direction, the result, or whatever the next thing that is related to that particular thing.
I concur, not making a choice is a choice.
While I agree that not making a choice is a choice, there are times when a choice must be made, and both options are not ones you want to make as an individual. This is a "less of two evils" kind of situation. In this respect, I do not believe that you always get exactly what you choose. For example, how do you account for those born into terrible circumstances?

I agree that we always make the choice we want. I read this paper (I can't remember where for the life of me) but it was talking about this idea of "pain vs pain". We always make the choice that gives us the least amount of pain. You wake up by 7 am and have to get to work by 8 am. But you sleep in for thirty more minutes because the thought of going to work is more painful. But by 7:40 am you're frantically you're frantically running around getting dressed because the thought of going to work is less painful than not being able to pay rent. We always make the choice we want to make. I think what's removed from us is the options we get. (at least for the most part)

I think when it comes to choice you don't necessarily get what you would choose but what you deserve

Yes , I agree with the quote. And you can understand it pretty much on its own like that but it would actually help to read the entire chapter to get the full meaning what it comes from and what you meant. Back to the quote, as soon as you want something, you have subconsciously chosen something. So yes, I agree.

I agree, if we have a choice then we will always pock the one we want the most, therfore always getting what we want. There is always the possibility that we have to work towards a goal and hope that somewhere along the way we are offered a choice that will take us the rest of the way,or it is possible that we are never offered a choice. You have ypir goal, your dream, and you have to work the entire way, forging a new path that doest have any forks or pitfalls except for the ones that you yourself created.

Wow, I really like this and concur with this. Coaches frequently advise players to "control the controllable" when playing sports. You can't be disturbed by what occurs if you don't concentrate on what is beyond your conscious capacity to control. I've always had trouble with this idea, but this book gave me new insight into it. This is great!

We specifically select what we get. If we are unable to decide, then it is either not a choice or not in our handle. This statement is true, in my opinion. Making a decision based on factors you are unable to influence will lead to the outcome you desire.

Exactly, I agree with that statement. We get exactly what we want. The choices we make today will affect the results we would get, either positive or negative. What one sows is what he or she would reap.

I believe that (being born into terrible circumstances) falls under a non-choice, hence it does not count. It's only the choices made after being born that count.

Which brings up another question; how old must one be before choices start counting? 5? 10?

I personally think that, on a plain note, the sentence means that we always get what we choose. I think the word that requires a definition is choosing. What is choosing? Our choices are made either by our actions or plans. If we consciously work towards a particular path, then we choose the consequences of our actions. We always get what we choose. In circumstances which could be bad, we still make choices that determine the next line of events.
