Being in the moment is a worthy goal, though it's difficult. Society is so focused on what comes next in the day, year, etc.

This is very true. Being only in the present is incredibly difficult. Having said that, if looking to the future gives you hope and helps you being productive in life, it can be a good thing to do. Projecting ourselves in the future can be empowering, it all depends on the outlook we have on life.

A very interesting topic.

In many ways, we need to look in our past sometimes, to see how we have grown and changed. To see lessons we have learned along the way. To encourage us by seeing the accomplishments we have achieved.

We also must plan for the future so we have things to look forward to. We need goals to keep our minds busy and occupied, so we don’t get lazy and bore.
That is what often leads people to become like zombies. They just follow the crowd. They have no goals, no motivation for change.

We must set goals and work in todays world to make our lives better, to want more out of life. Not to just follow everyone else’s way of life because it’s easier.

I agree that setting goals for the future is important. It helps us to stay focused and gives us hope. It is better to try and choose goals we think we can achieve as not to get discouraged. And grow from the goals we have achieved. We will make mistakes along the way and looking to the past as not to repeat the mistakes will be helpful too. Our goals remain our own goals, they will be different for each individual. This is how we learn not to live as human zombies.

In this current world ruled by technology it actually is very easy to numb ourselves and just continue living. There's a thousand distractions present at our fingertips and these reminders like the one in In It Together are really necessary and much appreciated. The world needs a lot more of these.

I completely agree. Reading “In It Together” reminds us of what is important in life. Being happy in the present, whilst being able to look back at happy moments in our past and setting goals for the future will help us live productive lives. I also liked the idea in the book of having discipline in our lives.

This is something that I keep working on to improve. Focusing on the current moment and letting go of the past isn't that easy, but deffinetly worth it.

It is not easy to focus on the present moment. The book refers to meditation to try and achieve inner peace. I think this is a good idea and a skill worthwhile developing.

I believe that most of the people in the world these days appear to be human zombies. Many people I encounter appear to just go through day to day motions based on what they are believed to have to do without any actual consideration of what it means to them, or whether they find any genuine pure joy out of what they find in the world around them.

Life can get complicated. People need to earn a living and do not always have the time to question their lives and find their inner self. But lately, there seems to be a switch where more and more people are striving to have a better balance in their lives between spending time at work and spending time with their family and friends. However, not everyone has the luxury to be able to reduce their working hours. So, yes, a lot of people still remain zombies but through no fault of their own.

I believe that if we look back at lives, we can be happy about some parts and sad about other parts. But it took both to make us who are are today. If you are happy and content with your life, the unhappy parts are not so unbearable to reflect upon. I have had some really sad and hurtful things to happen to me, but there were good things to come out of those things. I've been divorced twice, but from those marriages, I have three wonderful kids and the absolute best five grandchildren that a person could wish for. So, would I go through all of that pain and heartache again? You better believe I would!!!

Yes, that is very true. Even out of sad events we can find happiness. It is important to have the wisdom to acknowledge it.No life is without some sadness.

I feel like you touched on two huge topics. One being the struggle people face trying to find their true self, and the second to be in the present, not the past or the future.

In today's world, people are increasingly comfortable with being themselves instead of conforming to societal norms, aka being human zombies. This shift can be attributed to modern technology, which allows individuals to connect with others who share similar interests or characteristics. Through these connections, people feel a sense of belonging and normalcy, reducing feelings of seclusion and isolation, thus diminishing the zombie population.

As for the second topic, the struggle to live in the present moment, it is a challenge that will always exist. Fear and the unknown have driven people to create religions and beliefs in a higher being, and it is human nature to hold onto the past and fear the future. However, understanding one's true self can help overcome this fear and return to the present moment more easily. This prevents discontent from pulling you back into permanent zombie mode.

You are right in saying that people hold on to their pasts. As discussed before, it is not necessarily wrong to look back at our past as we can look back at happy memories and also learn from
past mistakes. It is finding the right balance between living in the past and present, and learning not to worry about the future.

The world may have become more accepting of people and this allows people to be their true self. But not always. There are still people hiding their true self. And still people being influenced by the media and not thinking for themselves.

Rat de bibliotheque1 I believe it is not the worst to be influenced by media, because there has always been a 'popular' group influencing the general population. It's the message they convey to their audience that makes a difference. In my opinion this is helping decrease human zombies, because movie stars and models are expanding out of their typical molds. Is there still a LONG way to go and will there always be people who are influenced by a negative influencer, yes. I just hope we can keep moving forward as a global society, which will require more inclusion and less exclusion :)
