No Hate, No Evil, And Unconditional Love.

Post by Shirley Labzentis »

Okay, Scott, here is a question about your book, In It Together. You state that there is no evil. You say that you love everyone unconditionally and that if you hate, you are in hell. What if someone kidnapped your children and did unspeakable things to them, like torture and sexually deviated stuff, and traumatized them for life? Could you honestly say that you have unconditional love for that person? That you would not hate them and they are not evil? Be honest, now.

I feel that this is a totally different scenario. Any hate in this situation is obviously not intentional and is ignited by the despicable situation. It takes self peace to handle such situation without making dire mistakes.

If I were to be in this situation, and to relate to what Scott wrote in his book, it means he will forgive the person so he can deliver himself from the hell of hatred. The person is evil, and choosing to forgive the person is creating your heaven where peace of mind is abundant. Hating the person would deprive you of that peace. The question is, what will you do when you remember the loss of your child? Well, To love and to forgive is not easy.

Relating to Scott's perspective, forgiveness becomes a tool for personal liberation from the torment of hatred. It's a challenging but attainable path. Holding onto anger can impede one's peace, but it's understandable to grapple with the complexities of grief and loss. The choice to forgive is a deeply personal journey but forgiveness is worth it.

I will let Scott to answer your question, but in the meanwhile I will mention a popular parable that illustrates the importance of maintaining one's own principles and values, regardless of how others behave. Here's a summary of the story:

A man saw a snake that had fallen into a fire and was struggling to escape. Moved by compassion, the man reached into the fire to save the snake. The snake, in its panic and pain, bit the man's hand. The man instinctively jerked his hand away, and the snake fell back into the fire. Undeterred, the man tried again to save the snake, and once more the snake bit him. Despite the pain, the man finally succeeded in pulling the snake out of the fire.

Another person who had been watching this asked the man, "Why did you continue to help the snake even after it bit you twice?"

The man replied, "The nature of the snake is to bite, but that is not going to change my nature, which is to help."

Moral of the Story - One should not abandon their good nature simply because others act in harmful or ungrateful ways.
“There is only one thing a philosopher can be relied upon to do, and that is to contradict other philosophers”

I would relate this to a biblical saying "Forgive seventy times seven times". When you forgive you allow your emotions to settle and refresh. When you keep the anger within your heart, you keep your heart frowning. I will therefore go with No hate, No evil , Love unconditionally as Scott put it.
