Q&A: "You have said that time is not real and there is no 'the past' and no 'the future'. Isn't yesterday in the past?
The following question is a paraphrased version of a question that was asked in the comments section of this Facebook post.
Q&A: "You (and Einstein) have said that time is not real and there is no 'the past' and no 'the future'. I'm confused by this. Isn't yesterday in the past?"
That's like asking, "Isn't what's two meters on my left on the left?"
Objectively, there is no yesterday, and there is no "the left".
It is fair to say that your yesterday is in your past, but that's just one subjective past of infinite. And it's a relativistic tautological description of the relationship between the arrangement of atoms in your body and brain at a specific age to what **you** call yesterday. What other people in spacetime, including other-aged versions of the human you see in the mirror call yesterday is different than what you call yesterday, which is symptomatic of the fact that objectively there is no yesterday, and there is no "the past" and there is no "the left".
It's fair to say that what's two meters on your right is on your right, but that's just one subjective left of infinite subjective lefts.
And, it's even more confusing (but ultimately accurate) if you remember that, as my book teaches, there are two yous. Though, presumably only one has a yesterday and a left and a future and a past, and that one is the unreal you. It's not real.
