Your view of "The Self"
these are the following questions:
How do individuals in Asia/Europe/America view the self?
What are the things/concepts that they value?
How do their customs, values, beliefs influence their way of living?

Re: Your view of "The Self"
Well inasmuch as descriptions of individuals within a continent can be generalized, I would venture that on the two axes of individual interest and collective interest, in the US (comparatively speaking) there is a view of self as an individual who happens to be within a group. In Europe there seems to be a balance between the individual self and the individual's responsibility to the collective. In certain Asian societies (not all), there is a view of self as a member of the collective primarily and an individual secondarily.Xenic wrote: ↑September 27th, 2021, 3:15 pm Greetings! I wanted to hear your opinions regarding this topic because of the assignment that was given to us in college. It implied that I have to interview people, specifically foreigners on their perspectives.

By saying "individuals" here I assume you're asking for personal viewpoints. Obviously I've little idea how other individuals view the self. It's still a very vague open-to-interpretation question, but I view myself primarily in terms of my ambitions, my family, my friends and my roots. I also see myself as Yorkshire, English, British and European, but not as strongly as those other things. How do individuals in Asia/Europe/America view the self?
In order: My family, the things that I've made, the things that my family has made, ideas, wine and food. What are the things/concepts that they value?
By determining what I do and don't do. For example, I have meals with my family because I value my family, ideas, wine and food. How do their customs, values, beliefs influence their way of living?

Don't mention it Xenic. I hope the assignment goes well.Hi! I'm from Asia so your answer counts , Thank you for answering, I really appreciate it!
I suppose mine and LuckyR's replies emphasized very different things. Mine was my personal view and Lucky's was more general. Hopefully both useful.

Re: Your view of "The Self"
I am not able to answer these questions because all I could say about people from other cultures is only a judgemental expression of my own cultural perspective. One might try to refer to prominent religions in these regions but there are even different religions with different views of self and values in each of these regions and the number of non-religious people in these regions might be significant.Xenic wrote: ↑September 27th, 2021, 3:15 pm Greetings! these are the following questions:
How do individuals in Asia/Europe/America view the self?
What are the things/concepts that they value?
How do their customs, values, beliefs influence their way of living?
So all you can do is to interview representative sets of individuals from these regions and analyse statistically.
