If You had the Power of God, How would you change the World?

Chat about anything your heart desires here, just be civil. Factual or scientific questions about philosophy go here (e.g. "When was Socrates born?"), and so most homework help questions belong here. Re: If You had the Power of God, How would you change the World?

Post by Robert66 »

I would start my day with some "deleting" and/or redirection of HR - eg:

Amazon (the company) deleted, Bezos re-purposed, either as a Bolivian lithium miner, or a Bangladeshi sweatshop worker;
Options traders - all deleted;
Certain political figures either deleted or punished (I will decide their fates over breakfast). For example Bolsanaro - strapped to an Amazonian rainforest tree, kept alive to be punished as local tribes see fit; Xi Jinping - mind replacement punishment, whereby he forevermore believes he is in a Uighur "Vocational Training Centre";
Jeeps and Range Rovers - deleted; their drivers - ditto;
Facebook, Twitter- deleted; Zuckerberg - sent to his bedroom, for eternity;
The Liberal National Party Coalition, Australia - either tied to a pontoon off Port Stephens, smeared with their own blood, during Great White Shark aggregation, or trampled by feral Horses in Koscuiszko National Park - their choice;
Every member of every armed force relocated to a fenced off war-zone somewhere in Syria or thereabouts, each with a fierce desire to kill, but armed with stone-age weapons, and with their ranks and allegiances all muddled up; also Netanyahu will mysteriously wake to find himself chained to a post in the middle of this war-zone;
Whatever else I think of over coffee.

During the day, apart from when I have a nap, I would work on my cryptic project, the one which caused Cowper to write "God moves in a mysterious way". For example I would do a lot of bank account swapping, unexpected power outages for fun, melt the Pentagon, Cause Manhattan to sink even faster (say 1 foot/month), recreate the Titanic's voyage, with all royalty aboard.

You are now thinking I am a bit too "Old Testament", but I would find time for a few re-incarnations - Martin Luther King, St. Francis of Assisi, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Franz Liszt, Aretha Franklin, I could go on (in fact I might start up a talk-back line so people could send suggestions for me to consider.

Instate a world government, having first removed all existing nation states - I'm thinking Margaret Atwood as the first President, she is good with details (no, I'm not implying she is the Devil - BTW, the Devil is not all that bad, and people should cut him some slack).

I know what you are all thinking (I actually do): what about Trump? You know what, I kinda like the guy - that's why I made him so lucky, in love, with money. He is an idiot though.

What to do in the evening, to ward off the loneliness and boredom? Make all religions disappear (nah, what's in it for me?); make churches, mosques, synagogues etc disappear (hmmm, I'll think about it); upload Buddhist dharma into every human mind (yeah, that one).

What else? Make all humans look the same? That could work. Who would they look like - Beyonce and George Clooney? Hyacinth Bucket and Boris Johnson? Might need suggestions for that one too.

I consider myself a gastrobitic human. I would destroy all of reality, ensuring existence could not occur because it would end all pain and suffering.

I am seeing this kind of comment online ever more often, with the general sentiment 'I hope it all blows up".

This comes from taking the dark slant of the news to be how things are, like watching a horror movie channel and then thinking that all movies are slashers. Of course there is much goodness going on.

There has been a long slow build up (like Ravel's Bolero) that will logically reach a climax at some point. It's as if the audience is starting to shout, "Get on with it! The tension is driving us nuts!".

Of course, if they read and watch less of the news media - say, enough to inform them of what's needed - they will find that the tension reduces dramatically. Dr Sy Borg recommends replacing excess news consumption with a hobby :)

I would make sure that everyone knows about my existence and I will destroy all the governments and make only one. I will introduce realms (heaven for good people, hell for bad ones) after death and reincarnation so everyone will stay kind and have faith throughout their life.

I would increase the number of sentient beings in the universe to a number which approaches infinity and I would arrange it so that each sentient being lives for an indefinitely long time and spends all of that time in a state of permanent trans-orgasmic pleasure and complete emotional, intellectual and creative fulfilment such that they can never get bored of those states and, at every moment, experiences them as if they were experiencing them for the first time.

If you're going to speculate about having the power of an omnipotent being you might as well think outside the box.

I, UniversalAlien, started this post.

After all the responses so far I've learned something;

I've learned why God is an Agnostic - Who questions not only his own existence,

but also why he creates anything or anybody in the first place - especially Humans :roll:

Near infinite beings vibrating with permanent trans-orgasmic pleasure - Yes! That's exactly what God would want. In the far future it will be known as the Bigger Bang.

Not so sure about your "big universe" policy but I'd otherwise vote for you as the Ruler of the Universe.

I will give mankind early access to our universe by giving them the knowledge to travel to different worlds. And watch them explore and learn new things on their own. That's also my dream, forgive me.

This awesome "power of god" is gained through faith.

So why not put the same faith in yourself to be better?

Funny, I was only thinking today of how Christianity's demand for faith was probably misinterpreted.

The ancients may have simply noticed that, if one has faith that you don't have to do anything to "fix" the world, ie. God has things under control, then you are more likely to be relaxed and happy, ie. the kingdom of heaven.

Having said that, I would "fix the world" by removing the need to kill and displace others to live. That there would be no scarcity, and that eternal happiness was standard. I expect that would mean digitising the universe, though, because that does not sound like physical life.

Not so, I am approaching philosophy through practice of philosophy rather than academic study of philosophy.
And i think to "Fix the world" we need to create understanding, but such things are difficult to reach out to due to a number of factors which takes time.
If education were to be aimed at learning to live and support each other rather than learning to be better than each other we would have a better life.

To this day people are still living in the cave "Allegory of the cave"

There is no fixing of the world - it does what it will all by itself, and we are just one part of what it is doing.

Large-scale education that aims to shape students' character is probably not possible because no one would fund such a thing. Private and religious schools pretend to build character but they are just shaping useful tools to further their ideologies.

Its not so much shaping a students character but creating understanding or a sense of awareness that allows them to draw their own conclusions, kinda like how we can learn at school vs creating a greater sense of awareness of learning by introducing critical thinking.
Or how someone is a good person that is never taught ethics but is then taught ethics to have a greater sense of awareness.
