A music / listening share thread?

A music / listening share thread?

Post by Papus79 »

I've noticed this has never popped up on here.

I got to thinking about this as I'm wrapping up my coding for the day and feeling a bit blessed, ASC just dropped a gem and I realize this is a dimension that we often don't share on here.

I'll leave this up to moderating and if you think it's really not OPF material feel free to throw it out.

I liked Miles' 80s fusion best--starting with Man with the Horn.

Star People is probably my favorite Miles album, period, but Man with the Horn, Decoy, You're Under Arrest and Aura are all albums that I rate very highly for Miles.

TY, I'll have to look up more. The guy was a mad scientist, even started looking a bit like Doc from Back to the Future toward the end of his life lol.

My first brush was Kind of Blue and I often go back to that because I really like the scale and chords that get used a lot, more of a 'by ear' producer than a sheet music guy so this isn't my language exactly but the 3rd/7th type chords like what's in the piano at the first minute of So What.

Do you find that the kind of music you've posted here is something you can listen to while working? I find a bit of ambient background music useful when working, but only when in the office, to selectively drown out the conversations of my colleagues while not being too distracting itself. I haven't been to the office for weeks.

Here's my non-ambient contribution.

Half Man Half Biscuit. Even Men With Steel Hearts (love to see a dog on the pitch).

TBH being an only child my focus threshold is pretty low as I haven't had much in the way of forced noise. To that degree I have to be doing something pretty light to listen to anything really rhythmic (which liking dnb as much as I do means I'm not rocking out unless there's a lot of difficult to avoid copy and paste). When I have coworkers chatting full blast (now also in the office much less) - I resort to turning up something like rain, waves, and thunder because it gives a workable noise blanket that doesn't pull me off in one direction or another.

Ah yes, I see this thread will be getting pulled in the direction of jazz and thick 70's sample sources a fair amount. I'll try not to ham it up too much on the sample-sourcing (ie. trainspotting sources from later 90's, 00's, 10's music or picking through J Dilla's crate) but I'll throw a few out here and there.
