Re: Graduate Courses in Philosophy
Do you mean "difficult" as: conceptually difficult to understand, difficult to get highest marks or the amount of time and energy required?Seminole wrote: ↑December 18th, 2021, 1:00 pm How much more difficult are graduate courses in philosophy than undergraduate courses in philosophy? I have taken some undergraduate courses in philosophy and I'm thinking about taking some graduate courses in philosophy. I'm not interested in earning a degree. I'm curious about certain topics so I've decided to take some classes.

I am not familiar with the philosophy curriculum, but I am very familiar with formal graduate education. In general, the material is more difficult than undergraduate material, but not very difficult overall. What makes it difficult to get high marks is competitiveness, not the difficulty of the material and I suspect that Philosophy in particular does not use didactic coursework to weed out graduate students, rather they use thesis and dissertations for that. Lastly, the material likely will be more time consuming per class than undergraduate work, but generally graduate students take fewer classes, so the work load from class work is similar.
