Fired for Displaying Altruism
A man is leaving on a business trip and stops by his office on the way to the airport. The night watchman stops him and tells him not to board that flight. He had dreamed last night that the plane would crash and everyone would die! The businessman ultimately cancels his trip and sure enough, the plane crashes, leaving no survivors. The man gives the watchman $10,000 for saving his life, then fires him. Why? When you find out, let us know whether or not it was right to fire the guard.

Hover over the above line to see the answer.
I would have given him a warning, since the job paid more than $10k and would have been better compensation for a guy who I believed saved my life.

Re: Fired for Displaying Altruism
Finally, the night watchman said he had a dream last night. It doesn't say which day of the week was last night, and whether or not he had work on said night. Could have been the end of the weekend, a holiday, or he has an irregular schedule with days off midweek. So him being fired for sleeping on the job based upon that information cannot be determined either, since we can't know if he was at his job on the night he had this dream.
Conclusion: The answer is too ambiguous to make a determination.

Good perception, but say the guard did sleep when he was supposed to be working and the businessman made the choice of cancelling his trip without the influence of the guard. Would the guard still be likely to be fired because of these factors?Eirkedaargk wrote: ↑February 8th, 2022, 5:48 pm Funny, but the conclusion is too ambiguous. He could have also been fired for the fact that he was turning business away based upon a premonition and / or dream. Even if the dream was true, it doesn't take away the amount of times a person's dreams are incorrect. He was not turning them away due to proven malfunction or on the orders of his superiors, which shows insubordination at a job involving flight security. Plenty of reasons justifying the boot.

Still not be enough specification. Some jobs allow employees to have "power naps." Google search "jobs allow maps" to get a list of some of these jobs.WanderingGaze22 wrote: ↑February 9th, 2022, 2:48 amGood perception, but say the guard did sleep when he was supposed to be working and the businessman made the choice of cancelling his trip without the influence of the guard. Also, the businessman cancelling the trip without the security guard's influence implies that he would not give the security guard a reward for saving him, since something else was the reason for his cancellation. Doesn't change the punchline much. The businessman just fires the security guard, no explanation.
Gotta love Logic, eh?
