Please remove my post on Freud located on the Philosophy of Science site. I have agreed to abide by rules which you have failed to enforce and I no longer want to be associated with this site or this forum. Please also terminate my membership.

What if moderators/admins themselves break the rules? I've been called an idiot by both users and forum moderators/admins, I have been told to go research something, and I have been told to google things by admins/moderators.

What to do then? Who polices the police? I am boiling inside with anger when that happens, when a person of authority on this site abuses the policies and very rules of this site. Other than going to fly a kite, what else can I do about it? Reporting it is stupid, they won't correct themselves, or ban or discipline themselves.

This is a real issue, and it's getting worse and worse. Pleople ignore the rules, or else are not familiar with them, and it's the worst when an admin/moderator does that.

THIS is exactly what I am talking about. You just broke a rule, Woodart, and you are not even aware of that, despite being a moderator. According to the rules, no user (moderator or not, admin or not) must tell another user what to do or that he has to do something.

Yes, I'm breaking the rules, too, now, but at least I am aware of it. If that's an improvement of any sort over your breaking the rules. My rule-breaking action is to reply to rule-breaking post, instead of reporting it.

You see what I mean? The rules are completely, completely ignored. I don't know why we can't have a site where the rules are followed and enforced.

Maybe the posts that I wanted to report were not offensive, but just rule-breaking. Why do we ignore the rules that are broken, unless they are offensive? Who made the rule, and where is it listed, that rules are to be obeyed only if the posts that broke them are in any way or manner offensive as well?

In this instance - in this thread - you are over the top with the idea of rule breaking. If you have another thread that you feel wronged - report it. The idea of the rules is to foster a congenial place to discuss things. The rules are not perfect - as none of us are.

Is this an actual rule, or you just got it out of thin air?

The rules are there for EVERYONE to see. So everyone can refer to the same set of rules. Now that we have non-universally advocated rules, the rules become even more bizarre. Some rules apply, some don't, according to an unwritten mega-rule.

I am speechless. You defend the rule-breaking, Woodart. You defend the rule-breaking actively, vocally, and with authority. What is the exact rule for those who advocate vocally to bring down the rules?

I am near tears, Woodart. An admin or moderator told me just now that rules are not to be followed.

Yes, E-B, you're right and I erred. It is clear when you read the references.

However, the references are self-contradictory. Please compare and analyze these rules:

"A. (Applies to topics in all sections) Please keep discussion focused on the issues of the specific topics, and not on the character of those discussing the issues.

D.5. (Does not apply to topics in the non-argumentative forums.) It is off-topic (and usually insulting) and thus prohibited to tell another member to go research or learn about something. This point is elaborated in the site policies regarding links.

A's rule of "not focus on character of discussion partner" applies to all forums. However, in the non-argumentative (NA) forums, character can be critiqued.

This is why I was confused. Because I admit, and now I see, thanks to your righting me, EB, that I was confused. I was confused because some rules do not apply to the NA forums, which negate the forum rules that apply to all forums (including the NA forums.) This is a self-contradiction that can be reduced to the law of the excluded middle.

Overall, I admit, you were right in correcting me to see that not all rules apply to all forums. Thanks.

I have just joined this site and skimmed through the rules. While the guidelines are a bit strict I can understand how that may be beneficial—I don't see myself breaking them anyway. There's no reason for me to have said all that, I simply needed a way to get an intro out of the way.
As of now I'm attempting to create a new post, topic, whatever it's called. This is my first time using a forum. If any of you could tell me whether I'm doing this correctly that'd be wonderful. Take your time, I have food.

As far as I am concerned, your post is fine. It made the pages, so it must be.

Please be aware that you need to make 20 posts just at first, and each will be read before acceptance to appear on the pages, before you can do that without needing approval. So first 20 is moderated, then it's free game. But please note: the twenty posts must all be made in the "argumentative" sections, and this is not the argumentative section. Hence, your post count ticks in at 0, because this post of yours did not count toward the 20.

If this had been immediately obvious to you as you read the rules, then I apologize for my condescendence. If my post was all news to you, then please note that the rules are a bit trickier than how they seem at first reading.

Would a post not be published if it includes, say, a few Chinese characters followed by bracketed English translation? To include would help elucidate and color up the post for the benefit of readers speaking the foreign language, on topic such as Hong Kong and China under Philosophy of Politics, for example.
