How long?

Post by Harbal »

I have suddenly found myself being moderated, does anyone know how long this lasts?

After the second glass, it starts to fade. By the sixth, you've forgotten what moderation is.

Once a member posts regularly for a week or so without breaking the rules, I will consider removing them from the moderation queue. Members do not get put on the moderation queue unless they continue to disregard the forum rules after having been warned repeatedly.

Just don't try and steal it.

Having the ability to send or reply to private messages taken away seems to be a part of being moderated. I hope everybody who has sent me a message, which I have been unable to reply to, doesn't think I am ignoring them.

Can I be unmoderated yet? I don't think I've done anything terrible since last Monday.

Come on, Scott, let me loose. This moderation thing is like being caged.

I was wondering how long the moderation is going to last. It's just that the frustration would be easier to manage if I'd got some idea how long I had to mange it.

Is Obvious Leo still in lock-down?

WHY?????????

Must he grovel publicly to be released? Is that the standard for getting attention?

From what I've seen, his posts have been terrific and he has been a model Philosophy Citizen.

I don't understand this inequity. It is cruel and unusual punishment to leave a prolific writer in the moderation queue DESPITE their supreme and consistent demonstrations of self-control. If he becomes disgusted from such excessive moderation/punishment and leaves the website, we all lose!

The moderation queue seems like a suitable place for people who cannot moderate themselves, such as: a) Those who continually derail topics with their same old tired "arguments" which have already received WAY more attention than deserved (or healthy), and b) Those who spew insanely and indiscriminately in all directions. For some reason, these spammy behaviors are allowed to bombard and clog the veins of intelligent and FRESH discourse, but someone like Obvious Leo who responds strongly to such god-awful posts is thrown in the slammer instead of his "offensive" (but true!) post simply being removed.

Leo clearly has self-control and can moderate himself! He just breaks the rules sometimes... and god bless him for it. While others who truly lack self-control and broader perspectives than their usual cup o' spew, remain at large to bombard website readers with that same old same-old over and over. THAT should be the crime! I think there should be a "Report Stupid" button added to posts.

Seriously, all of that! Most specifically, LEO DESERVES TO BE SET FREE!!!

I'm having the same problem and offer the same apology. I thank everybody for their messages of support.

I publicly apologised to the poster I offended a while ago and didn't see it as grovelling. I stepped over the line and acknowledged it and that's all there is to it. I have nothing else to apologise for and nothing further to say on the matter. Scott can run his private fiefdom as he sees fit and people can form their own judgements as to his performance in this role.

But Scott, I have a LOT of questions! 8)

My point is that there are other people who have repeatedly shown that they cannot moderate themselves, and they have not received the same "corrective" outcome. And yes, reports have been filed. But the results seem inconsistent. Some end up in the moderation queue while others don't. Some seem to get a warning that they might be sent there, while BAM!, others just land there. And there seems to be no understanding about how long that might last... and it seems to vary. People who invest a lot of energy here... and even people waiting to get onto the site... really deserve a little more feedback about what to expect. It feels terribly disrespectful and "blown off" to be on the receiving end of such extended silence. Simple standard messages that say, "Here's what you can expect..." could alleviate a lot of frustration. It just seems like a considerate thing to do. I would even be willing to help craft the standard messages... since I'm a writer and that's what I do.

I am very grateful for this website, and all of the enjoyment and insights that I have gained from it. And I know that it must surely be a huge, often thankless, job to set up and maintain such a thing. As a User, I'm offering feedback (which has been encouraged by the site), and I can only hope that it will be considered to be helpful... rather than just seen as an irritation.

Leo has been on his best behavior, and yet he remains locked up without any idea of how long it could go on? Would any of us want to be in that position? It seems unkind... and I'm not understanding why that's necessary.
