How long this time.

What are the chances of me being unmoderated, Scott?

For a second time being placed on moderation queue for repeated violations of the forum rules after having already been through that process, pretty slim.

I don't appreciate someone coming into my house and calling my other guests idiots, especially after I have repeatedly asked said first person to stop doing that repeatedly.

And especially since I tell the other guests I have invited here that this is a place where they will not be called idiots or personally attacked.
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

The sanctimony doesn't really wash, Scott. This isn't your house. It's just a commercial enterprise and your "guests" are just a means of making money, be it by squeezing a subscription out of them or using them as an audience for all the dubious adverts.

It is his house, literally.

I'm assuming that the server we utilize for our own personal expression, education and/or entertainment while members of this site, whether a contributing member or not, is located literally in his house, and also that he must incur the time & money costs of maintaining and operating this site, as well as risk the inherent problems and dangers of such an activity.

It must be worth his while.
It belongs to him and he can make the rules, simple as that. If you want to kiss his **** that's fine.

Just as you presumably do in your own house. Yes? That's what I do in my house, so I get the analogy. Do you?

It's only a true analogy if you invite people round to your house in order to make money out of them. Anyway, I don't have a problem with the course of action, ie. moderation, banning, whatever, the rules are clearly stated and, to be honest, I can't understand why I wasn't asked to leave the premises ages ago. It's just a shame about all the idiots I never managed to get round to.

I'm sure we could all argue the details of the analogy for page and pages. It's what we like to do. I enjoy it, and I am quite confident so do both of you.

But I am equally satisfied with altering my analogy to the following:

I don't appreciate some guest coming into my restaurant and calling my other guests idiots and violating the dress code, especially after I have repeatedly asked said first guest to stop doing those things repeatedly.

And especially since I tell the other guests I have invited here to my restaurant that this is a place where they will not be called idiots or personally attacked, or have to look at people who do not follow the dress code.

If this is restaurant, though, then we must be on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares and not even know it. :)

I can live with that analogy but I can't speak for Spiral, he's doesn't really do compromise. While I hold my hands up to the idiots charge I'm not sure how the dress code fits into our analogy. If I can't come into the restaurant and harass the idiots any more then I suppose I'll have to get used to living on takeaways. It's a shame because, although there are other internet philosophy restaurants, who have their own idiots, you seem to attract a better class of idiot here. If at any time you become overrun with idiots and you need some culling get in touch. :)

Harbal, I would recommend that those interested in culling power show interrest in becoming a moderator. If you can't do that it only suggests to me that you can't really recognize an idiot when you do see one. Personally, I'm not particularly fond of my own limited moderator "power" as a queue moderator. I'm moderating just a bit and mostly as a way of giving back (a little) to a restaurant which offers what I feel are sound rules.

Harbal, you once made death threats upon me and I had flagged it then. The moderator then sided with you saying you were just being funny and so it was all okay. I thought that was a pretty idiotic comment but I can live with idiots; as you say, we have a fine class of idiots here. And I'm not claiming here that I'm not one of them or that I do want any of them culled.
Watch out for the hidden paradoxes around you!

Take my word for it, Bruno, I'm not moderator material and I have no doubt at all that Scott would back me up on that, if nothing else.
If you can't do that it only suggests to me that you can't really recognize an idiot when you do see one.
I'm not saying I never get it wrong but I think I've got a reasonably good radar for idiots.
what I feel are sound rules.
I don't have any objection to the rules, not even the ones I fell foul of. An exception would possibly be the putting of new posts in the queue.
Harbal, you once made death threats upon me and I had flagged it then.
I have no memory of that but I promise you I don't make death threats. If I ever said anything that sounded like one I can assure you it would have been an attempt at humour. Causing offence is one thing but threatening behaviour is quite another so if I said anything that sounded like that I apologise.
as you say, we have a fine class of idiots here. And I'm not claiming here that I'm not one of them
Me neither. That is, I'm not claiming I'm not one.

Just curious as to what specific definition of "idiot" is being used for the purposes of this discussion.

I know you wouldn't think it but I don't really like the word "idiot". Apparently, I called somebody an idiot and that was one of the reasons I got moderated, and that is the incident Scott referred to. I think that's why I've emphasised the word, it isn't really appropriate.

Personally I see these forums as a gift. A gift from Scott for us all to enjoy, or be disgusted with, or whatever you will make of it. And I see our words (all our words) as a gift to the future, for anyone that reads them to enjoy, or be disgusted with; I think you get the bigger picture/conclusion I am trying to draw here, so long as the internet lasts and our electric letters glow. So thank you Scott, thanks a lot! :D
Humanity has been galvanized by the internet. Its' a virtual, neural web of collective consciousness. And in this social-electric state, we all have a say; From the darkest corners of thought to the most enlightened. It's a mirror of all our minds.
