Most Philosophical?

Post by Spiral Out »

No offense to those listed in the "Philosophy Trophies" section of this site as the Most Philosophical Members, but since when does mere post count equate to the measure of the philosophical content of those posts?

I could post a multitude of completely inane responses to many topics and be the most philosophical member of this site? That seems rather absurd.

Just an observation of an apparently minimally-philosophical member of this site.

I just took it as Scott playfully encouraging people to contribute. Then I looked at the post count and figured it broadcast to new members that I must lead a quiet life :) It hasn't been updated for a while and, since Belinda has been relatively quiet, if it's updated I'll probably get the gong.

Of course, I'm not "most" anything", let alone most philosophical - just another old gal trying to make sense of things before she snuffs it. Dime a dozen. You get old, you tend to get more existential. What the list ultimately says is that some of us are going through intense questioning phases ATM and seeking to bounce ideas around with intelligent others with equivalent interests.

I took that as Scott cornering the philosophical market from the predatory range of Don Kings to Donald Trumps  . Although the "most philosophical" designation is qualified or defined by the 'most posts made in the last 30 days," I agree that lends itself to political semantics. If the ranking increases the celebrity of philosophy and brings new ideas, spreading old ones etc, then  There are philosophical problems with trying to quantify more qualitative things, so the oxymoronical aspect is likely effective marketing of the site. It did create a post on the site, one that generated comments...

I just meant it as a joke. It only refers to people who are active on this site listed most active to least active. I can make it more reflective of that. It should update automatically so I will have to look at that too.

How often do you update the list? It is certainly unique.

I like the reading list trophies too.

I myself tend to read 3 particular philosophy books over and over one after another. Eventually I will find something new to read in addition.

My interests are mostly still about surveying all of philosophy throughout history, and then focusing on modern philosophy.

Roger Scruton in the UK is my primary source for modern.

Have you heard of him?

Sometimes I try joking around on this site too. It doesn't ever seem to go particularly well for me.

Yes, there's always someone who'll be bothered by it. Poor things.

Not wanting to hustle, Scott, but an update might be about due ;)

Who is most philosophical? R. Buckminister Fuller gets my vote, even tho he is dead since 1982. :)

Easy solution: just change the words "most philosophical" to "most postosophical." This will have the added benefit of making the meaning of the thread title a topic of discussion... oh wait, it already is! :o

Would be interesting to see the list if it were updated tomorrow. The "Most philosophical" one.

I haven't really understood the topic "most philosophical." If that is only limited to those who are philosophical in this forum, then my guess is valid. I wish there will be more discussion about philosophy. It seems I am encountering more about religion than philosophy. Thus I incline to be more apologetic than face up with the philosophy or the art of living ideologies, something like that - they call it existentialism, or pragmatism, or democracy or communism. I like to read discussions about this things even if I cannot participate.

Please don't feel you can't participate. You hone your own thought processes by making errors and reaching successes.

I have updated the titles of the boxes to be more literal and exact.
