Announcement re Book of the Month

Post by Georgeanna »

Announcement: Your votes are in! The January 2019 Philosophy Book of the Month is The Runaway Species: How Human Creativity Remakes the World by David Eagleman and Anthony Brandt.
This announcement at the top of the page seems to me to be quite misleading. As I understand it, only a few votes took place with a limited choice and it was only with a view to discussion.

The headline could be interpreted as this is our vote as to the best buy.
Perhaps bestowing it with undue prominence and worth.
As far as I remember, the included link takes you to some book site where there are 2 people currently wishing to read this book. One of whom is Scott.

Why has this been resurrected after so very long ?
What caused it to die a death in the first place ?
What will make it better this time round ?

Just curious.

There was a poll to determine which book would be the Philosophy Book of the Month. All members were invited to vote, both via an email sent to all members and a global announcement posted in the forums. So I don't agree that the phrase, "your votes are in," is misleading.
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

Interesting bite.
I meant the whole Announcement as to a 'Philosophy Book of the Month'.
If I were cynical I would say it is well placed, just another advertisement.

I am surprised you have made 400 posts at my website OnlinePhilosophyClub.com without knowing my day job is owning and operating OnlineBookClub.org. I'll definitely have to advertise that fact a lot more around here.

For future reference, you can see that listed as my job on my LinkedIn Profile or my Facebook Profile, as well as ton of our data about me. So please do follow me if you are curious about me personally:

Scott

Thanks for your reply. I really don't take any interest in what the day job of a website owner is.
Like many, I'm only here for the beer. So all the best with your other enterprises.
Have a Happy New Year !!!
