Are you sure the topic was actually lost and not just held for moderation. If anything like that ever happens, please screenshot the exact page you see right after the glitch occurs so I can see the exact error that happened.Intellectual_Savnot wrote: ↑February 24th, 2019, 7:12 pm I just experienced the second mishap in a few days that stopped me from uploading a topic. The first time, I wrote hundreds of words of text and went to upload the topic when the site glitched and my whole topic had been lost. Despite having glitched, the website apparently had made no attempt to retrieve the lost data and no writing was present when I reloaded the page to the "POST A NEW TOPIC" screen.
On what other major websites does the tab button create a large amount of white space in a text box?Intellectual_Savnot wrote: ↑February 24th, 2019, 7:12 pmevery other known writing platform causes a large space to appear in the text. Apparently in this site, tab ALWAYS functions as the function that shifts between possible commands.
I'll look into how those website do things if they work better for you and see if I can copy it.
However, it can be a major accessibility issue to take the tab key away from its typical HTML usage (which is to move through the HTML page) and have it be a meaningless* extra white space. I believe vision impaired people will have a lot of trouble using the website if the tab button doesn't work like it does on most website which is not the way you describe but rather as a way to move their cursor through the screen. Folks on smartphones rely on similar functionality to the vision impaired since the "next" button on the smartphone utilizes the same index in the HTML code that a typical keyboard will assign to the tab key.
*White space is condensed in HTML so a large paragraph indent that one might make in say Microsoft Word will show up as a single space mark. For instance, if you write something in Microsoft Word with paragraph indents using tab key or separate certain words by multiple spaces and then copy and paste that to Facebook (just as one example) you would notice that the tabs and consecutive white spaces are all each condenses to one single space mark (i.e. what would typically display from a single click of the space bar).
Keep in mind, your perceptions are skewed by what gets through. You only see the approved the content. You haven't seen the tens of thousands or more posts we have disapproved because they contain spam links to porn websites or computer viruses or other things.Intellectual_Savnot wrote: ↑February 24th, 2019, 7:12 pmLinks as well are non-intuitive. There seems to be heavy over-moderation that unnecessarily targets any links posted, despite an apparent lack of real issue. It seems strange that links are not allowed but yet there are still advertisements on the site...
Other than the blocks for spam that prevent new members from posting links at all, I'm not really sure what you mean about posting them being non-intuitive. You can just copy and paste the URL itself: https://example.com
That's the easiest way. It's basically the same way to add a link to a Facebook post, a Twitter Tweet, and generally text based email or blog post.
