A technical question

1) Where can technical questions be asked. I am a new subscriber and my second post--the first was the introduction--was not accepted because the robot sees a link in it. But my message is pure text. I am afraid to paste this text here because this message might also be rejected.

2) Is there a tutorial for new users on this website?

Thank you for being available. Do we have a tutorial (about how to navigate, and how to perform common tasks on this website)? I would probably be not the only one to benefit from reading it.

You can read the standard phpBB FAQ here: http://onlinephilosophyclub.com/forums/faq.php

Unfortunately, we do not have a tutorial. This is a good suggestion. I will write a tutorial/FAQ soon.

For now, you may be able to find answers to your questions by using the search feature to search the feedback forum.

I'd like a tech support query answered too, if I may:

I have a 255 word limit on a signature but when I 'submit' get a bounce saying I have a 0 word limit.
I am experiencing a similar issue with adding a website to my profile.

I've passed 10 or 12 posts, which I vaguely recall seeing was a minimum for some profile alterations.

Any ideas of what is happening and how to fix / circumvent it?

cheers!
Tim

The signature and website profile fields have even stronger requirements. I will make this clearer on the profile page. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Keeping up with the topics I'm already subscribed to keeps me pretty occupied... but sometimes I pull up the Board Index just to quickly see what the latest post in each Main Philosophy Forum is. Rather than opening each of those forums to see what ELSE is new, I've thought it might be handy if there was some kind of indicator on the Board Index page, in the "Statistics" column or "Latest Post" column, which identifies how many new topics (or posts) have been added to each forum, say "within the last 24 hours".

I don't know if this is realistic or possible... but I just wanted to throw the idea out there. :-) Thanks.

Well there already is a view new posts link on the forum index:

http://onlinephilosophyclub.com/forums/ ... d=newposts

What you are describing is possible, but might already be sort of indirectly fulfilled by that.

Awesome site, I love the search function.

I'm using the Chrome browser, and the "Jump to:" navigation links have some kind of a clipping problem or something. It works right on the main forum index page, but everywhere else only the bottom five pixels are clickable.

Siphersh, thanks for finding the glitch. I was able to find the cause and fix it.

How can I turn off receiving e-mail notifications when someone posts in a topic that I have subscribed to?

You can click the unsubscribe link in the email. Or you can unsubscribe from the Manage subscriptions tab, under overview, of the User Control Panel.

You can adjust whether or not the subscribe to topic button is clicked by default when making a post to a topic in the preferences tab, under profile, in the User Control Panel.

Yeah, but then it won't appear on my "Manage subscriptions" page either. I like that page, it's the only way of checking if there's anything new in all the topics that I'd like to follow. Can I somehow just turn off receiving e-mails from the site in general?

That's a good point. One I have an issue with too.

On the other hand, you can easily search for topics to which you have posted at any time. But that will not include topics to which you have manually subscribed but not posted.

There is a bookmark feature. But I do not use it because it is too much hassle so I understand that.

There is an option in the 'edit global settings' section of the 'board preferences' for "Administrators can e-mail me information". While that disables the twice-monthly newsletter, I do not think it disables subscription notifications.

I suppose what would be best would be to integrate bookmarks with subscriptions so that the subscriptions page includes the typical subscriptions which have email notification with bookmarks of topics you want to see there but for which you do not want to get emails. However, implementing that adjustment will take a little time. Does it sound like something worthwhile? Do you have any suggestions on how to have it work on the user-end? Thank you!
